Attention Students, We are pleased to announce that The AUSU Food Pantry will reopen from holiday closure this afternoon Tuesday January 5, 2020 from 4 - 7pm (EST). Due to the ongoing pandemic there have been some changes made to the pantry operations to ensure the safety of our students and community members accessing this service. Please make note of the following changes:... When you arrive you must knock on the outside of the globe door (located near the front doors of the main building). You will not be allowed inside the pantry. Only one student is permitted to come to the appointment and masks must be worn. When you make your appointment you need to list allergies, dietary restrictions and if you have any preferred items. The pantry will do its best to meet your requests but will not be able to guarantee exact items. Food bags will be arranged prior to your arrival so it is very important that you come to the correct time slot and tell the pantry assistant your name so that you do not end up with the wrong bag of food. Appointments can be made through the google calendar link below: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/selfsched The following changes are required by administration and have not been made lightly. Hopefully this will be short term changes. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing you! If you have any further questions please email [email protected]

This project is the result of ongoing efforts by AUSU and the University to enhance the overall student experience and modernize campus spaces. Students need an updated and functional space where they can study, socialize, enjoy meals and eventually congregate for events comfortably when it is safe to do so. I am very proud of this project, and the significant investment AUSU has made to ensure its success and provide students with a great experience. Heartfelt words from ...your Students' Union President Yahaya Alphonse, about our latest construction project to improve student spaces taking place on the speakeasy here on our SSM campus. All part of the ongoing restructuring and capital infrastructure plans here at AUSU, recently discussed at our latest town hall. Check out the article to see photos of the conceptual design and read more about the project taking place.

The communicationteam at Algoma University has started working on their annual holiday video! This year's video is about sharing with others some of the ways our staff, faculty and you the students celebrate the holidays in their home. Algoma University is proud to have such a rich and diverse population across our three campuses and We want to showcase everyone's unique traditions, by sharing in photo and video format!... Here are some ideas of what your could submit: - 15 second videoof yourself explaining your holiday tradition or what the holidaymeans to you and your family - Saying happy holidays in another language - Submitting an image or video of a holiday tradition. You could also share a photo or video taken last year (as I imagine holiday traditions will be different this year due to covid) The video should be approx 15-20 seconds and it should be recorded in landscape format (horizontal). But if you have a video from last year that's taken vertically, that's okay too. Please have all submissions sent to [email protected] by November 30th.

Happy Transgender Awareness Week, from all of us at AUSU. #TransgenderAwarenessWeek is a week in which we all reflect and educate ourselves on the struggles that Trans* folk face, as well as taking some time to learn about all the wonderful things Trans* folk are accomplishing. Here are some simple ways to be a better Trans* ally: -Ask people their pronouns, and then make an effort to use them.... -Educate yourself so others don’t have to. -Respect people’s boundaries. -Let Trans* folk take up space, especially in their own community. We’ve also compiled for you a short, non-exhaustive list of Trans* and Non-Binary activists and advocates you can follow to continue your journey of learning to be a better, more inclusive ally. We also recommend you follow them if you are Trans* or Non-Binary, as these pages often share resources you may find useful. @raindovemodel @alokvmenon @indyamoore @believeinmaybe @ndnthunder @i_weigh @iolovesyou Stay safe Thunderbirds, I hope you all have a nice week of reflection and education. -Rebekah Gwynn (They/Them), AUSU Queer / Trans* Councilor 2020-2021
