This is a beautiful example of how to model emotional intelligence. On a sidenote, telling your children how they are impacting you to get the behavior you want... (i.e., You make me sad when you do that...I’m so angry at you) is not what we mean at all** That’s when we’re capitalizing on the child’s shame or guilt in order to manipulate behavior, and makes them responsible for our emotional dysregulation. It also gives the message to the child that we cannot handle them, and that hierarchically puts us below our children... which is not a good place to be in terms of attachment. We are talking about intentionally teaching emotional intelligence by leading by example. Credit: Seed & Sew

Well thank goodness for this. There’s something to be said about good enough parenting. No parent is perfect, and we all make mistakes. But at the end of the day as long as you are their safe haven; and they feel seen, heard, and loved you are doing your job
