Had great time speaking and answering questions about BlackBerry Town to my wife Janet's book group Sunday afternoon. Husbands were invited as well to the event hosted by Marlene O'Brien (pictured) in her Waterloo backyard. Great to see everyone. #BlackBerryTown #uwaterloo #wlu #communitech #blackberry #opentext

Steve Izma is profiled in my latest blog. Steve worked in publishing and tech but the radical student movement at University of Waterloo in 1960s moulded his philosophy toward work. #uwaterloo #Laurier #Communitech #BetweentheLines #randallhoward http://ow.ly/OnSV50AXzKe

Excited to announce that BlackBerry Town has made Sifted's summer reading list. Sifted is a Euro tech website based in UK. Not sure how they heard about my book but it's great news. #BlackBerryTown #Sifted #BlackBerry #OpenText #Communitech #Vidyard #Miovision #Sandvine #Cantech http://ow.ly/uCC050ANvCB

Tim Bray, co-founder of Open Text and featured in BlackBerry Town, to be interviewed by Iain Klugman on True North TV, Tuesday at noon. Tim built one of first search engines on internet, using technology from University of Waterloo project in 1980s to digitize and search Oxford English Dictionary. #BlackBerryTown #Communitech #OpenText #IainKlugman #TimBray #UniversityofWaterloo #TheAgenda #StevePaikin #WaterlooEDC http://ow.ly/3Wdj50ApYld

I'm excited to announce BlackBerry Town has been short-listed for the Speaker's Book Award, handed out by the Ontario Legislature. Award honours non-fiction authors writing about history and culture of province. Word came from my publisher, Lorimer, a few days ago. Not sure who else has been nominated or when winner will be announced. #BlackBerryTown #Communitech #WaterlooRegionRecord #CBC-KW #Lorimer #IanMcLean #IainKlugman http://ow.ly/ZvBl50All2j.

Martin De Groot: his name is synonymous with the arts in Waterloo Region. Former arts columnist with the Record, former director of region's arts council, he now has program on CKWR Radio called Community Promenade. Earlier this week we chatted on Zoom about BlackBerry Town. The interview will air either this Tuesday or next at 6 pm on 98.5 FM. #BlackBerryTown #CKWR #Communitech #Cantech #lawrencemcnaught #joelrubinoff http://ow.ly/oOKh50A6o3L

Looking forward to talking about #BlackBerryTown to Prof. Jordana Garbati's class at Lazaridis School of Business at WLU on Monday. Jordana teaches writing and presentation in economics. Originally I was to appear in person but the pandemic has forced us to chat via Zoom. Should be interesting. #Lazaridis #wlu #KevinCrowley #JordanaGarbati #Lorimer #cantech #nickmanning

Historian Ken McLaughlin's books on University of Waterloo were a great help to me in writing BlackBerry Town. Learn more about Ken in the latest instalment of my monthly blog. #BlackBerryTown #uwaterloo #kenmclaughlin #johnenglish #ulaurier #communitech https://www.chuckhowitt.com//words-don-t-always-flow-easil

With everyone in Covid lockdown, I finally got around to writing a blog about BlackBerry Town. It's basically the back story of how book came together. If you're looking for break from pandemic news, check it out. Hope to write one blog per month. #BlackBerryTown #Communitech #OpenText #BlackBerry https://www.chuckhowitt.com/post/the-making-of-bb-town

My heart goes out to all authors publishing books this spring, including former Record colleague Rob Reid. His book on fly-fishing is called Casting Into Mystery. Covid-19 has made this a huge challenge. So glad BlackBerry Town came out last fall. #BlackBerryTown #Lorimer #Canadianauthors http://ow.ly/Disj50yRd2Q

Looking forward to speaking about BlackBerry Town to Elmira Kiwanis Club Wednesday morning in St. Jacobs. The challenge will be keeping my speech to 20 minutes. With so much to talk about, it won't be easy. Thanks to speaker-co-ordinator Wayne Vanwyck for inviting me. #BlackBerryTown http://ow.ly/HmVx50yuG3U http://ow.ly/iPaL50yuG3S

When I started promoting BlackBerry Town, some people urged me to do a video about the book. Well here it is, finally. A huge thank you to former Record colleague Robert Wilson for his shooting and editing work.
