Whenever I consider writing my Autobiography, I remember Jorge Luis Borges wonderful short story, "Funes the Memorious" where the hero had such a perfect memory that it would take him an hour to remember an hour, a day to remember a day. Mine, of course, is not that perfect (thank goodness) but Childhood memories are so full of taste and touch and scent that it is nearly as bad. And I give up.
Hearing that Edmonton is now the colder that both the North and South Poles reminds me of when I was Writer-in-Residence (they called it Visiting Professor) at Jane Franklin College (U.Hobart)) in Tasmania in 1998. I got to know the head of the Australia Polar Expedition and found out that those clever Aussies would send a Creative person (Artist or Write) along. Naturally I applied thinking the South Pole would be a great setting for a children's chapter .book. I explained that since I came from Edmonton, I would have no problem with the Polar weather! Turns out I was right! Didn't get the job though, not being Australian.
Writers Retreat gang in Kardamyli. Working hard!
Sorry to announce Greystone Books has decided to let The Doll go out of print. I've talked to Scholastic Canada about possibility of them picking it up as they did Julie. Fingers Crossed!
Looking forward to celebrating with Calgary Public Library on September 15. 30 Years of Authors-in-Residence. I was there in 1989 and it was a wonderful experience. Happy Memories.
