Every day at the Autism Resource Centre we see that each person with autism has their own skills, abilities, and potential to participate and contribute within our communities, workplaces, and society. For over 40 years, ARC has been the only organization in Saskatchewan that specializes in preparing young adults with autism to develop social skills and gain employment. An 80% success rate of securing long-term employment is exceeded only by inclusive employers who report 1...00% satisfaction in hiring a person with autism. In the past six years alone, the number of people supported by ARC has increased over 170%. However, we have not had a funding increase to match the rapid increase in demand for our services. Even with ongoing innovation, community partnerships, and a dynamic vision, our wait list continues to grow. We need your help! The Autism Resource Centre relies on donations and fundraising for the continuation and expansion of our exceptional programming. Sadly, the COVID pandemic has hindered our fundraising activities. Every donation will be gratefully appreciated, and all donations over $20 will receive an official tax receipt. Our DONATE IN DECEMBER campaign goal is $50,000. Please help us reach our goal! DEAM may be over, but our employment coordinators work hard all year long! Together Diandra and Chris have been creating, innovating, and supporting our members through various points in their employment journeys. Supported employment is something they take seriously and do with passion. They believe that everyone deserves equal opportunities in all areas of life but especially employment. Together, they continue to be advocates of inclusive hiring to ensure that people with autism are represented in the Canadian workforce. Thank you Chris and Diandra, for all you do throughout the year! #DEAM2020 #inclusivehiring #AutismResourceCentre

As we wrap our Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), we want to highlight and thank @ReginaDowntownBID (RDBID) for their commitment to inclusive hiring. We have been working closely with RDBID for a number of years and they are sold on the benefits of inclusive hiring! At our recent Inclusive Hiring workshop, they shared their experiences of working with ARC and validated what we have known for so long: Adults with Autism make GREAT employees! They are always on time,... very reliable, dedicated, and enjoy the routine and structure of work every single day. RDBID also found, while creating an accommodation for one of their employees, that inclusive hiring helped their whole team, resulting in a more organized, prepared, and less stressed work environment. So far, RDBID has filled 7 of their positions with ARC members, and have even re-hired them, like Anthony. Anthony (AJ) began working with RDBID last summer. At that time, ARC’s Employment Coordinators provided RDBID staff with a presentation on Autism and how to work with those on the spectrum. AJ proved to his supervisors that he can work efficiently, reliably, and independently to get the job done, while our Employment Coordinators helped as needed along the way. RDBID enjoyed having AJ as a part of their team and brought him back again this year, extending his contract multiple times. RDBID has also helped coordinate volunteer opportunities for our Vocational Volunteer group. These experiences have helped our members gain tangible work & social skills, and add valuable experience to their resumes. We are SO grateful for this partnership that we have with RDBID. Their organization and entire group of staff truly understand inclusion and the benefits to their organization and our community. Thank you to all our inclusive employment partners! In the spirit of Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM). ARC would like to recognize employers that have made inclusive hiring and workplace accommodations a priority and part of their culture. This includes employers that give equal opportunity to all individuals to excel in the workforce and reach their full potential. Today we recognize Westcare Facility Services Ltd in Regina for being an employer that has continuously given equal employment opportunities by using inclusive workplace practices. Thank you for being an inclusive champion and for your partnership! #DEAM2020

Disability Employment Awareness Month is a time to celebrate the many and varied contributions of workers with disabilities. Here's Ammanda's take on how inclusive hiring has impacted her life: "Inclusive hiring has helped me immensely in the way that I have a safe working environment that I really enjoy and feel like I am part of a team with the amazing people I get to work with. I just love the overall vibe of the place, my boss is amazing, and coworkers are more like frien...ds there. What I love most about my job is that I will know what the day will be like a high percentage of the time. Some may find this kind of work repetitive but routine is what really helps me during the day. Both on and off the clock; Familiarity is my friend. Since starting in my position, I’ve strengthened my technological, social, and communication skills, and have made some great connections along the way." Let’s celebrate Ammanda & the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK) for being truly inclusive and illustrating that inclusive hiring works! #DEAM2020 #inclusivehiring #AutismResourceCentreRegina

Today we want to celebrate Andrew and his employer, Pathways Learning Centre! Andrew is a hardworking young man who loves to clean! Although he can sometimes struggle with communication skills, he came to ARC’s employment program with many marketable skills and a great desire to work. Our Employment Coordinators connected him with Pathways Learning Centre, a small local business specializing in speech therapy, occupational therapy, counselling, and an inclusive preschool prog...ram. They hired Andrew as their valued cleaner in 2019 and he has now been there for nearly a year and a half! Over the past year and a half, Pathways has noticed Andrew has grown his employment skills even further by increasing his communication skills, socializing more with staff, and managing his own supply levels by having open communication with his supervisor. They have also noticed he has also been socializing more with his coworkers, and is even initiating conversations with the students and parents that attend their programs. He really enjoys seeing the children at preschool and makes sure he greets them and sees them off before and after each class. Andrew's supervisors are very impressed with him and how much he has grown since he started at Pathways. Thank you, Pathways, for being an Inclusive Champion and providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for Andrew to grow and thrive in his work. This is what’s possible with Inclusive Hiring! #DEAM2020 #inclusivehiring #AutismResourceCentreRegina
