Bob Mingo generously allowed The Auto Shoppe to display his 1961 Bombardier Skidoo. Gord Graham is passionate about preserving the history of Alberta's history. Gord Graham- I’ve had the honor of looking after this for the last 14 years. It’s been in my show room above the front desk. It’s the first Ski doo sold in Alberta by Byers country and western store. It’s a 61 all steel one piece body. Heavy and slow and dangerous. Note , no key , ignition switch is the wire on top t...he spark plug. Note, no brakes, idea was to hold yer leg against the clutch till you stopped. Turple bros in Red Deer has the same one with wooden skis. Byers sold this unit new in 61 and the Hoyme family promptly returned it a week later stating somebody is going to get hurt. Byers never sold it again. I got it when I built my new shop to display it and let the public see it. My good friend Bob Mingo Byers grandson owns it and is moving it to the local ski doo dealership to display. His son in law is the manager so it’s in good hands. See more
