COVID-19 UPDATE JUNE 7, 2020 1) Tomorrow our province enters level 3 which means we are slowly returning to a new normal. First we want to thank all of our patients for being understanding and having patience during these past months. It has been challenging times and we’ve all had to learn and change on the fly to adapt to the virus in our province. 2) Physician clinics in our building are also entering level 3. Please call your physician clinic directly for appointments an...d information on how to prepare for your visit. 3) While we anticipate increased foot traffic in our pharmacy over the next several weeks we want people to take note of the following. We still request proper physical distancing of 6ft between patients, you can use the floor markers as a guide. We suggest you wear a face mask if you have one. You CAN enter the pharmacy without a face mask at this time however that may change with any new orders from the Dept of Health. Please have respect for each other and help keep everyone safe. And as always wash your hands with soap and water or sanitize and avoid touching your face at all times. 4) We apologize in advance for possible longer wait times for prescriptions. With changes in work flow and precautions taken to ensure everyone’s safety, longer wait times will be prominent and unavoidable across all health care. We suggest waiting in your vehicle on the parking lot or coming back at a later time after dropping off your prescription. 5) We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in place for any type of mistreatment of our employees. We understand things are different and at times will be frustrating but we ask for your patience and understanding. We have been here through it all on the front line and feel ALL front line workers deserve respect. 6) Finally we have been through a lot as a province these past few months and there will likely still be challenges ahead. However we have done an amazing job with how we have handled the situation and our hard work is paying off. Be proud, be safe and stay vigilant! See more

Happy Anniversary to Us.. Hard to believe we opened our doors 5 years ago today. What an amazing ride! We’ve seen lots of changes, had a major expansion last summer and had a fun time getting here. We want to thank our amazing patients and customers, we would not be here today without you guys. It’s been an honour and a privilege to be part of your health care team. Also we want to thank Wanda Boone for taking a chance on us 5 years ago. You are more family than an employ...ee and have been integral to our success. Thank you to Danielle St. Croix who joined us last spring when we really needed the extra help. You have become a very important part of our team and we look forward to what the future holds. Thank you to Birch Hills Medical Clinic and Avalon Medical Clinic as well as all other local physicians, it’s been a pleasure working with you to provide health care to the residents of CBN. Thank you to NuQuest Distribution, it’s been great dealing exclusively with a Newfoundland and Labrador owned distributor that has exceptional service. Thank you Alpha Pharmacy Group, we are proud to be part of this group of NL owned independent pharmacies. I’ll end here as I could go on for days lol. I apologize to anyone we left off, there’s just so many people that helps make a small business succeed. We will plan a little celebration of sorts when everything starts to get back to normal. Thanks again to everyone and most importantly stay safe.....remember to wash your hands, social distance, cough or sneeze into arm or tissue and stay at home as often as you can. Big thanks to Yetman Bros Ltd. for helping protect the staff and patients at Avalon Drugs. Some changes you might see next time you come in the pharmacy. We have a plexiglass barrier at the drop off area/cash register, a higher barrier for the dispensary and some markers for social distancing while in the pharmacy. We will continue to do whatever we can to stay open as long as we can to provide care to our patients. Thank you for your understanding and remember.....when we protect ourselves we protect each other.

COVID-19 UPDATE MARCH29/2020 Avalon Drugs is continuing to adapt to this new atmosphere of conducting business. Everyday there is new information coming out and changes being made. We are trying our best to do everything we can for your safety and ours now that there is proof of community spread. 1) First off we are announcing slightly reduced hours of operation. Our hours will now be 9AM to 5PM Monday to Friday and 10-2 on Saturday. These hours may be further reduced and we ...will announce them on this page. 2) We continue to limit prescriptions to 30 days supply as instructed by NLPB and CPhA. Thank you for your understanding thus far and it seems to be doing what it was intended to do up to now, that is protect prescription drug supply so there will be enough medications for everybody. 3) We want to thank everybody for social distancing when in our store, calling ahead to make picking up prescriptions easier, and everything else you have been doing to protect yourselves. For the most part you guys have been doing amazing! We haven’t had to lock our doors yet and let in so many at a time but we have been telling people to have a look through the glass door, if there’s more than 2 people inside just wait in our porch until someone leaves. 4) We do want to reiterate the importance of NOT ENTERING OUR BUILDING IF YOU ARE SICK WITH SYMPTOMS SIMILAR TO COVID-19 OR HAVE RECENTLY RETURNED FROM TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE PROVINCE. Call ahead and we will help arrange a way to get your medications to you. We want to help in any way we can. We want to keep our patients and our staff safe anyway we can. If you ignore these instructions we will not fill your prescription and you will not be welcome back to our pharmacy and we will report you. This is serious now and we want to do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe. We want to keep our pharmacy open as long as we can to continue providing care to our patients. As COVID-19 spreads through our community any infected person entering a business could shut it down for weeks. 5) This week our patients will see some new plexiglass barriers being installed at the pharmacy as another precaution to keep everyone safe. We know it will be different and there will be less opportunity for small talk and having a chat, but the safest way to navigate any retail setting now is to call ahead and get in and out as quickly as possible. Limiting your time in any retail setting is the safest way to shop right now that we know there has been community spread of Covid-19. 6) Finally we urge everybody to listen to what our political leaders are telling us. Wash your hands, social and physical distancing and stay at home. We have had a rough week with increasing numbers but we can still turn this around! We are in a unique situation as an island to get this right. By protecting yourselves you protect everyone else. See more

COVID-19 UPDATE March 19,2020 1) As per Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board instructions to all community pharmacies, Avalon Drugs will temporarily be limiting refills and new prescriptions to a 30 day supply. This is a very important step in maintaining a healthy supply of medication for everyone. There has been a large increase in prescription drug demand during this pandemic and all pharmacies are being called to action to protect and maintain prescription drug supply... for all patients. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this temporary measure. 2) We ask you to please have patience with our longer wait times for prescriptions and increased difficulty getting through to us via telephone. Our telephone call volume has increased immensely as well as all other tasks during this pandemic. We assure you we are doing our best to handle the situation and hope to return to normal as soon as possible. 3) When possible please call ahead for your refill prescription or drop off new prescriptions and return later or wait in your car. This will help with social distancing which is one of the most important ways to protect ourselves from the Coronavirus. In addition we ask for your understanding as we are also trying to social distance ourselves for your protection and ours. 4) This pandemic has been mentally challenging on everyone. We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has been patient, kind and understanding. You have no idea how much it means to all front line workers whether it be pharmacy, medical clinic, hospital, grocery, gas station, restaurant etc. A little encouragement goes a long way and it helps us keep going. Coronavirus/COVID-19 Info/Update Avalon Drugs would like to ask all of our patients to read and consider the following points.... 1) If you have recently returned from travel/vacation and feel sick or have symptoms similar to the Coronavirus please don’t come to the pharmacy. Call your family physician or call 811 for help with your symptoms and make alternative arrangements to drop off or pick up your prescription. We have many patients who are at higher risk of complication...s if infected with Coronavirus including the elderly, the immunocompromised and people with multiple illnesses. It is of utmost importance to protect these patients from infection. 2) Maintain extraordinary hygiene habits. Wash your hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer. Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or tissue. Wear a mask if you are sick or think you may have an infection. Avoid sharing food or drink. Avoid shaking hands. 3) Educate yourself and keep up to date. Use proper websites such as Canada.ca/Coronavirus . Please take caution when observing information from social media or regular media. 4) Remain calm. We are fortunate to live in a country that will work diligently to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. Also NL and the rest of Canada has some amazing health care professionals that are ready to help whenever it is needed. 5) Please be considerate with stockpiling of supplies and medications. There is currently a shortage of surgical masks and hand sanitizer and recently rubbing alcohol and surgical gloves are becoming harder to get. It’s fine to have supplies on hand but many are doing without while others have more than enough. 6) While this COVID-19 pandemic is serious, with proper education and preparation we can minimize exposure and spread of the Coronavirus. By being extra careful and considerate we can ensure the safety of our most vulnerable. Thank you Avalon Drugs Health Care Team
