Kreggan Scharnatta Landscape Designer/Estimator, Sales and Marketing Manager Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Kreggan has always had a flair for design. He graduated from the Built Environment Engineering Technology program at the Medicine Hat College in 2018. There he learned how to technically design and draw plans for clients. Immediately after he graduated, he flew to Australia where he honed his skills working for 2 years in the interior design, project management and... landscaping fields. In 2021, Kreggan came on board with the Avara team as a Landscaping Designer/Estimator but quickly moved into Sales and Marketing as well. Kreggan brings a strong positive energy to the team and his clients are always loving his character and personality. Mike Pronovost Landscape Division Manager Originally from Huntsville Ontario, Mike has been in the landscaping industry as early as 13 years old doing odd landscaping jobs in the summer as a teen. In grade 10 and 11, he was part of the Green Industries program taught by Liz Vandenberg which taught him the finer details of landscaping such as drawing irrigation plans and reading blueprints. This course was the catalyst for his passion for working in the landscaping field.... After high school, he worked for 2 years in steel erecting where he got his first taste of leadership with a crew of 10-12 under him. This experience gained him the skills and energy of being a strong manager for Avara. Mike has been with Avara for 4 years, starting as the General Field Labourer, but in less than a year, quickly rose up to management. He has a strong eye for detail and a passion for leadership in all his projects. Since he started at the bottom with Avara, he understands the field labourer position and is respected by the crew under him. Larson Laing - Owner Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Larson has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Even in early childhood, he would be found setting up a m...akeshift shop and selling brownies, lemonade and candies to his schoolmates. In his late teens, he and a friend started a landscaping company and pitched it to the JMH & Co. Entrepreneurship Start-Up Program through the Medicine Hat College. He and his partner won the maximum award including a mentorship with local successful entrepreneurs. From then, the partnership fell through but Larson was given the opportunity to work in hospitality. He was offered the position of Director of Marketing and Sales for a hotel group, but his entrepreneurial spirit drove him back into Landscaping. He used his talents and experience with sales and marketing alongside his previous experience in landscaping, to develop a new landscape venture. With a limiting timeline of the Medicine Hat Sunshine Home and Garden show fast approaching, he developed, implemented and established the start of The Avara Group with Avara Landscaping in 2016. As winter approached, there was a need for commercial property care which formed the new branch, Avara Property Care in 2017. In 2018, he added on the Decks and Fencing branch of the Avara Group and just now in 2021 the addition of The Avara Garden Centre. Avara now operates across Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, with full commercial crews for Landscape construction, lawn care and snow removal, and full residential crews for personalized landscape design builds. Snow Crew - Avara Property Care is looking for reliable, hard-working, prompt and motivated crew helpers. If you like working outside and being physically active, this is the job for you! Crew leaders will be responsible to lead 1 to 2 person crew in snow clearing operations at various commercial locations throughout Brooks, AB. This is an on call position which requires the availability to be ready to work when it snows (which can happen unexpectedly at times!) and a possib...le year-round position for the right candidate. Crew Leads must possess a valid class 5 license with a clean driving record. Helpers do not require a licence but it would be considered an asset. Must be willing to work weekends on call Must be able to meet on site as early as 3am Reliable & motivated Must adhere to company policies and safety guidelines Must attend and participate in safety meetings and training Must report all incidents to manager Ability to work long days with heavy and intense work in conditions Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions Experience with small equipment a bonus (i.e blow packs, paddle brooms, walk behind sweepers, stand on sweepers and mini skid steers) Experience with larger equipment will also be considered (i.e skid steers & loaders) Key responsibilities: Using the appropriate equipment (snow blower, backpack blower, snow shovel) as per the conditions to effectively and efficiently remove snow from all space required as per the instructions of the crew lead. Ensuring equipment is properly fueled with the proper fuel throughout the day communicating any issues upwards to the crew lead. Speaking in a respectful, professional, and friendly manner to clients at all times as well as driving company vehicles safely in winter road conditions: snow, ice, slippery surfaces. Candidates do not need any previous experience, but will be selected on whether they are a good fit with our company culture and whether or not they fit the above criteria.
