From our perspective in 2020 we would call a work week of 12 hours per day, 6 days per week an absolutely ludicrous idea. But in 1872, that was reality for most labourers. It was against these unbelievably demanding normal work-week requirements that the Typesetters Union began their strike in 1872, seeking a 9 hour work day, instead of the standard 12 hour work day. So, Happy Labour Day, Canada!! We don’t have to work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week anymore, and that’s a great thing!! #labourdayweekend #canada
