Then, we will be able to see if we can wait until your next scheduled visit or arrange an earlier repair visit. Your braces treatment will also include some information on how to treat some common problems at home, like irritating wires and brackets. You might be surprised to find just how many thing...s you can solve on your own, but again, we are ready, willing, and able if you need us. Use orthodontic wax to hold the broken bracket in place in your mouth until you can arrange to see your orthodontist. If the bracket has come loose, remove it if you can easily, and bring it with you to the orthodontist for reattachment. Store the removed bracket in a protected place to prevent further damage. Although braces have become sturdier with modern technology, it’s still important to be careful not to damage them. Certain foods can damage braces' components, such as the rubber bands, wires, or even the bracket itself. Generally, avoid all foods that are sticky, hard, or chewy. Soft foods are most recommended for those who wear braces because they are gentler on braces hardware. Read the following list of foods to avoid: * Sticky candies like toffee, jujubes, caramels, sk...ittles, etc. * Nuts, popcorn kernels * Hard granola bars * Suckers * Ice and popsicles * Hard candy (do not chew!) * Hard rolls, bagels, and pizza crust * Hard fruits and veggies: cut or break up into small pieces and chew with back teeth * Ribs and meat on bones * Corn on the cob: cut off before eating * Chewing pens, pencils, fingernails or using teeth to open things * Bubblegum (sugarless gum is okay!) Hello everyone, As I’m sure most of you have heard, the Alberta government has planned to gradually reopen healthcare offices, including dental offices, starting May 4th. They have left it up to the respective governing bodies, in our case, the Alberta Dental Association & College (ADA&C), to come up with specific guidelines for this reopening to ensure patient and worker safety. The ADA&C is, and has been, busy trying to come up with appropriate guidelines to meet this goal ...that are based on the limited scientific evidence and research we have about this specific virus. They plan to release these guidelines to us on Monday, May 4th. Until then, all dental offices across the province are still closed for non-emergent dental care. We have no idea what measures to protect staff and patients will be required by the ADA&C. We have no idea whether our supplies of PPE will be adequate. We believe it could be mid-May at least before we can actually see patients, and even then there will be reductions in the number of patients we can see per day to start, and possibly when certain procedures can be done during the day. Your safety and quality of care is of our utmost importance, so we kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this process. We have a very accurate record of all missed and cancelled appointments. When we know more - probably next week - we will start the process of scheduling patients. Please do NOT phone or email to schedule your appointment. Please do NOT leave messages because we may not be able to respond promptly. Our team will be very, very busy trying to get organized and booking patients, and every email and phone call will keep them from the huge task at hand. Please be patient with us. We love our patients, and miss you all. We are also anxious to get back to our practice. But there are a lot of unknowns right now so we can’t be more specific. You can find a reputable builder with a long history in the community, the best tools and great trades, who has a track record for building wonderful homes and who stands behind their work. You can also find a builder who will do it cheaper. They may have just started up. They could have decent tools and some OK trades. But to build it cheaper they have to cut corners somewhere. The end result can look nice, but you run into problems (and it could be years later) because of t...he compromises. By then, that builder has gone under and you can’t find anyone to take responsibility. This would be the cut-rate orthodontic practice where the only focus is on lower fees and not the quality of care. And then, you can find a REALLY cheap builder who only has 1 tool (a hammer) and untrained trades. They could build you something like might look like a house eventually, but it may not stand up very long. This would be the dentist whose only tool would be Invisalign. Or, you can build it yourself. A company can sell you a VERY expensive hammer, make lots of money, yet it doesn’t have to take ANY responsibility for the end result (which likely won’t be very good). Can you imagine feeling so good about your orthodontist's clinic that you want to work there? Meet Madisena former patient, now working as a receptionist/dental assistant at Antosz Vincelli Orthodontics. Madisen explained: "Dr. Antosz did my treatment when I was 12. A potentially life-threatening disorder, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is a complex condition. In this article, Dr. Antosz and Dr. Vincelli offer you a first step in understanding what it is, who's at risk, and why. What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS)?... Definition: Apnea "the arousal of breathing for 10 seconds or more. It is a full obstruction of the airway when a person is asleep." In this case, arousal means that the sleep moves from a deeper level of sleep into a more 'awake' one. Source: https://www.intechopen.com//contemporary-treatment-approac In OSAS, the sleeper's upper airway becomes partially or fully blocked. Thus, the amount of air entering the lungs is reducedor even completely stopped for a number of seconds. The result is lower than required levels of oxygen in the blood. More than just lower oxygen levels at night, OSAS increases a person's chances of heart-related issues (heart disease, heart arrhythmias, heart failure), high blood pressure, and stroke. Who is most at risk? * Guys, unfortunately, it's you (3-7%), with the gals a little less (2-5%). The reasons? The hormone testosterone reduces effective respiration (breathing). Also, men's pharyngeal and supraglottic airways (the sections in the mouth and throat) are more resistant than those of women. In other words, they don't let air in as easily. * Those who are middle-aged are more likely to have OSAS than other ages. This is because the elasticity of our tissues and the functions of our pulmonary (lungs) and cardiovascular (heart) systems are less effective as we get older. However, Dr. Antosz and Dr. Vincelli have dealt with pediatric and adolescent clients who suffer from this condition. * Weight is another issue. Those who are overweight have more fat around their soft palates. So, there is less space for air to pass through. * Drinkers and those on sedatives are at higher risk. When we sleep on our backs, the genioglossus and tensor veli palatini muscles work less. (These muscles are in the soft palate, which is the back of the roof of the mouth.) The less they work, the smaller our airway. Alcohol and sedatives make these muscles work even less. Fortunately, dentists such as Dr. Antosz and Dr. Vincelli can expertly help patients with OSAS.
