I love lather in shampoo especially if it is dense and cushiony. When I started caring for my hair myself, I mostly do not feel the lather richness in my hair until about the 3rd application and that is when I determine that my hair is clean. Dear Queen Afro-Rocker, choosing the appropriate hair care products that are ideal for your lovely texture is as important as choosing that perfect face concealer. Your texture is delicate, prone to easy breakage and thus, requires spe...cial care and attention. Due to the curliness of afro hair, the oil produced by our scalp is prevented from traveling through our hair strands and this is the reason afro hair easily looks dry and dull despite having an oily scalp. The foundation of every hair care routine is hair wash and choosing the right cleanser is of utmost importance. Ideal cleansers include shampoos that are mild and provide gentle cleansing to the hair so as not to further strip the hair dry. TO HAVE A HEALTHY HAIR, BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT ITS CARE! See more

Afro hair can be deceptive. Do you know that afro hair can shrink down up to 75% of it's actually length? So, when you see long afro hair, kudos to such hair owner. This picture depicts loosened out afro hair and similitude of when it's stretched out. @teeshairsecret is a great inspiration to me when it comes to hair goals. I've never used her products but I'd like to say a big thanks to her for sharing of herself and a shout out to all formulators out there. Formulating products is no mean feat.

Knowledge, they say, is power. I've had the privilege of chatting with different people about hair care for kinky hair and in one of my discussions, the person reiterated the narration I am passionate about and looking to change. And it is that throughout our growing up years, we were never taught about how to properly care for our hair type. My view - we never really understood our hair so, we were unable to fully embrace, love and nurture it to its full potential. I believ...e the general care we give to hair is borne out of the trend we acquired - shampoo, conditioner, relax, steam etc. In my haircare journey, I've come to realize that kinky hair is the most fragile of all hair types hence, it should be treated with care. A healthy dose of patience is also required in achieving healthy and much desired long hair. Proper care also brings out the real texture of the hair. I recall one of the things that prompted me to embark on this journey was the dryness of one of my girls' hair. I used to psyche myself up prior to making her hair because I always had the notion that it could cut through my skin. Less than 2 years after my journey began, I now cherish running my hand through her hair to feel the softness and I feel fulfilled that my aim has been achieved. One of the things I embraced is oiling the hair before washing. This is referred to as "pre-poo" and from my experience, this practice reduces shedding of hair. Although reducing shedding of hair doesn't have direct correlation to having soft hair however, wouldn't you rather have long hair alongside? In pre-pooing hair with oil, hair strands soak up the oil (not all oils penetrate the hair strand - see my earlier post on hygral fatigue) leaving little room for water to penetrate the hair. Reducing the amount of water that penetrates the hair strand reduces the amount of stress our hair goes through - yes, hair do undergo stress. You don't need any special gadgets, just oil (olive or coconut oil will do) and plastic (shower) cap. Apply oil to your hair and put on plastic cap for about 30mins before washing. You can also apply overnight. *I don't know if it'll work with permed hair.
