We get this question a lot. Robert answers it well for this week's Real Tips From Real People! A common question we get asked is "Why do I need 'collision' on my vehicle if I'm a good driver?"... Because it's not always about your driving it's about the people around you, too. If you're the victim of a hit-and-run and you don't have collision coverage, you won't be protected. Between 2013 and 2017 in Picture Butte, Coaldale, Cardston and Lethbridge, there was an average of 53.4 per year (with damage over $2000). That's more than once a week. If this happens and you have collision coverage, your claim will be covered and not rated against you; but you may still need to pay the deductible, depending on your coverage.

Insurance policy/contract: A contract between an insurance company and its customer for a specific period of time. It protects the customer financially against a loss. Insurance is also a mechanism for dispersing risk, because it shares the losses of the few among the many.

Business interruption coverage: This coverage can protect your business when it experiences property damage from an insured peril (like fire, theft, wind, hail,... water, falling objects, etc.). It provides income support and extra expenses until you are able to return to your complete operations.

Having the right insurance certainly pays off.

At A-WIN, we are required to make these calls each year to make sure your information is updated, because there can be devastating consequences if not. You likely know that failing to disclose facts when applying for insurance is wrong; but did you know you have to inform your insurer of any changes in risk? Not passing along these updates is a surprisingly common mistake. Here's some examples of changes we want to know about: Renting your home Having a vacant home Doing major renovations Operating a business from your home Deciding to use your vehicle for business activities instead of personal ones Sharing your vehicle with additional drivers Not updating these things could leave you with no coverage, despite having taken out a policy of insurance. At A-WIN Insurance we call you each year on your renewal to discuss changes you may have or to let you know about important changes to your coverage that you may not have heard.

Collision coverage: This coverage reimburses you for damage to your car when you're in a collision with another vehicle or object (like a tree or a guardrail). While it won't reimburse you for mechanical failure or normal wear-and-tear on your car, it will cover damage from both potholes and roll-overs.
