Being interviewed can be fun and nerve racking. I enjoyed this one. Got to answer some questions that I hadn't thought about before.

Here we are, more than a year of adjusting and understanding what a pandemic can do and our response to it. There is an abundance of information about what is on the horizon to treat or prevent getting sick from COVID-19, but very little about what our immune systems needs to stay well. Maybe, because what our very organic, physical, sensual bodies need to stay and feel well, runs counter to what the rules and restrictions tell us. I am not questioning that masks and social d...Continue reading

Here we are, mid-February and still sorting through the realities of a pandemic. Meanwhile, things just change because they do: the planets' trajectories change, a polar vortex visits most of Canada, politics and historical events occur. And we've changed: we question values we've taken for granted and personally we may have had another look at what our sense of purpose is about. The whole definition of purposes comes in to question. (I love the movie "Soul", by the way, f...Continue reading

Living with Uncertainty Where are we at now, at this stage of living with COVID-19? We've adapted in some ways. We've learned to live with restrictions and make do with a new reality. Maybe we've even learned to live more in the moment. Some people in my life, or people I've conversed with, are now facing a block. It is the block of not knowing what/s next. Go back to school/university? Go back to my other work or home in the US? Find different employment? Decide perhap...s to retire earlier than originally planned? Living in the Question is not easy for us. We like to plan, to have it worked out. Uncertainty that we cannot ourselves fix, is difficult to experience day after day. Yet this is the challenge. We are asked to do this very thing. Deepen our experience of joy in little things, broaden our sense of moment to moment beauty and grace. Smile more; be kind to everyone in spite of inconveniences or even dealing with others' crankiness. Dig deeper into our resources of compassion. Stretch that muscle of not-just-tolerance, but true acceptance and welcoming each challenge to be the better self. If COVID is a call to evolve, as I believe every thing is: then evolve is the thing we must do. If we are to transcend beyond 'getting through this' then we are given the opportunity to find those resources. Funny thing is, they are not our resources only but the resources of the collective, of humanity, of our Oneness with all, of our belief in some Invisible Realm (whatever your name for that is). Faith and Trust have a new meaning; it is really allowing a free fall into a scary place, a bit of darkness, and place of Unknowing, and there, behold, we find a firm footing underneath. I can't really promise you that, or even tell you how to get there, because the very nature of trust is to not believe in any easy solution but contemplate a reality heretofore unknown. That IS a bit frightening. And as is true of all fears, they must be faced to overcome them. I was tired of feeling scared of the future and knew from past experience, I was being called to trust. The best way I know how to get there is to journal; to write my fears. Meditation helps, listening to my dreams helps. Once committed to this process we will find the ways that most aid us to get beyond the discomfort of uncertainty.

The Five Stages of Corona Grief I don't know if this your experience, but I've been on a strange roller coaster of emotions the past few weeks. Suddenly it occurred to me that I've been traversing the stages of grief (as per Kübler-Ross). And this makes sense. Grief and loss of freedom of movement, normal social interactions, perhaps loss of sense of purpose or routine. Loss of regular expectations of life, of a sense of security and safety and taken-for-granted good health.... Stage 1, would be DENIAL: I might look like this for you: "This isn't really happening, it is a hoax, what's the big deal, life should go on as normal, I can't be bothered with all the restrictions, I'm holing up in my house and pretending I'm on holidays." Stage 2, is BARGAINING; It might look like this for you: "If I get to stuff I normally don't, my life will still have purpose, If I really take the time to relax, all will be well with me, If I focus on others, I will be rewarded, If I stay positive, nothing bad will happen to me." Stage 3, is ANGER. If we've come to a place that this is real, and the stuff we are telling ourselves isn't really working, we will probably shift into anger. This might be at government, WHO, News media, wherever we want to lay blame for lack of information, too much information, too many restrictions, not enough restrictions. Or we get angry for others for being careless, or being paranoid. Maybe we are angry with ourselves for not getting things done, or being impatient. Stage 4, is DEPRESSION. Ok, we've let off steam and then we wake up one morning feeling useless, or think: "When is this ever going to end?' or "The world as it is, is going down the tubes" or "I just don't feel like doing anything, what is the use anyway?" We feel listless, and even if we could, we wouldn't go out and show ourselves anywhere. Stage 5, is ACCEPTANCE. This is when we've accepted the reality as it is, and have made adjustments and adapted and are not so focussed on what has changed for us, but more on what our "new" way of being needs to be like for us. Just be aware that we don't neatly move through these stages one after another and be done with it. We'll go back and forth, have another day of irritation and anger, or even spend some time ignoring our reality, or we'll have another day or two of feeling depressed . Just know, this is normal. If your depression is lasting too long, I suggest you move, walk, dance, write/journal and have a good talk with a friend. Aukje Kapteyn, the journal coach, April 3, 2020

Whatever this pandemic of Corona Virus is about, what has become clear to me is that our individual reactions tell us what we really need. What I mean is that while we seem to have more time on our hands, we aren't really getting to those tasks we thought we'd get to. We aren't organizing our photos, doing a deep clean of our homes, getting to the mending, fixing, and other bothersome tasks. At least most people I've communicated with are finding this to be the case. ... This is why I think this is so. We are being called to align ourselves with a new reality. Perhaps we are busy in our super-conscious or sub-conscious minds to envision a new world. This is more than adaptation, this is actually being creative and innovative. It may not have manifested in our day to day lives yet, but somewhere we are busy with this very important essential thing that is taking energy away from the ordinary mundane tasks that glare at us. We need to refocus on what is really important and this take a bit of a paradigm shift for most of us. So be it. This is important work! So do it and don't berate yourself for not doing the things you thought you'd do with time on your hands. Love you as is, love life as is. And perhaps this world-event is our ally. See more

When is it a good tine to make a change? Change of work, location, and all the stuff that comes with it? I have found that is is not helpful to think only of what you want to get away from, what you don't want. I need to have more clarity about what I do want, what evokes my passion, what pulls me, draws me. Ask yourself what do I love about my life right now? How can I have more of that? Then continue to love it, until it feels right to move on.

"What’s called bliss and what’s called ordinary mind are equal; one is not a higher state than the other. - Katie Dearest Katie, Never in my wildest dreams di...d I ever know that I would become what I am becoming. There are no words to say what is going on inside me. I am dancing a dance beyond what I could imagine. This morning I actually was dancing to some music, just me and the world, and I felt the deepest of joys and freedom. Because of The Work in my life. How can I ever thank you enough. Some of my friends stopped doing the work along the way, they got busy, thought maybe it was over the top or not for them and that is wonderful. But for me, I am laughing all the way to the bankas they say! The work has only given me love I never knew. You say just when you think it can’t get any better, it has too. YES. It is true. And I am just an ordinary woman! Katie, I get more and more of what you have every day. Going into the grocery is the most amazing experience now because I feel so safe in the world and among true family wherever I go. I look into the eyes of the man who gets the carts and help him, I see the people and I am home with them all, watching them shop with a love so deep, as if I am that tender hearted God watching over them. They would never hurt me willingly, I understand this. I sense they would die for me if needed. I look at a man on the way out and we smile. I feel a oneness not known before. When I go to my women’s 12 step meeting we laugh and laugh, this new self is contagious. I am a new person at my meetings, bringing in joy and a knowing that all is well without having to say it, and sometimes sharing that. It is true Katie when you say If you are in a hurry to get to heaven, this is the way. When I started doing the work 2 and a half years ago, I thought at times it seemed slow, or that some thoughts would never go away. Today my deepest sorrow i s gratitude unable to be spoken. I met with you recently at Kripalu, sitting with you and honoring your loving presence. I must thank you for your tireless travel to people everywhere to give them The Work. You are, to me, the most amazing, humble person I have ever met. This must be what love must do. Every time I go to your workshops you remember my name and always have time to talk with me. And now, it seems I am off to the woman’s prison to offer The Work. I notice that I want to do that. Not perfectly. Not sure how it will turn out but what else can I do Katie! As I become free I am more here to help out, wherever I can. I have a long way to go, lots of stressful thoughts yet to welcome. I am not complete, however, I have paper and pen and 4 questions. You are one of the greatest blessings to our planet, even when some people don’t recognize that. And yes, you are right when you say we all love each other, we may not always recognize that. Thank you for you. Loving you always, Sandra K.

Water Ceremony Where I am in British Columbia right now, there are close to 600 wildfires burning forests, threatening towns, and affecting air quality for many... thousands of hectares. I look around me and see cedars with brown leaves. The grass is yellow-brown and brittle dry. The creek that runs through our land a turbulent stream last winter is now a mere trickle. This drought makes me want to do something. But doing sometimes detracts from feeling; from exploring deeper things our souls want to explore. Doing ceremony gets at that because it contacts the subconscious in us and draws on the collective unconscious. So I want to do ceremony. And maybe there are more of you out there that want to do this. I wrote some stuff that might just collect and gather some energy and power. Feel free to share. Since we are so connected to Earth, but perhaps forget that a lot, we could find ways to be connected to this parched and thirsty land. We are parched! We are thirsty! What in our souls are we thirsting for? Gather your women and your men and your children and youths. Gather at a stream or body of water and do ceremony. Bring drinking water with you but do not drink it till the end of the ceremony. Also bring journals or supply paper and pencils. Here are some suggestions: Begin by just being present where you have chosen to do this ceremony. Feel the ground under your feet, feel your own body and what it is made of and feel its connection to the earth. Breathe the air with an intention to be one with the air and the movement of air. Feel the warmth of the sun, sometimes the heat of it and think of the power of fire: fire that destroys, that purges, that transforms and that is the passion in our bellies. Then be aware of the water that you are nearby. Do not touch it yet, just be aware of the qualities of water, our need for water. Do not talk as you do this. Allow about 5 minutes to be quietly directed by someone to give thought to these elements as you meditate on them. Briefly, quietly give thanks and go on to the next step. The ceremony can include words like these adapt to suit you. You can turn it into a liturgy with different people saying parts perhaps intercepted with some singing with guitar?? We are here by the shore of Glenora Creek, which was perhaps once a powerful river, which now flows into other rivers and then eventually into the ocean. Its source is probably from the snow that forms on the mountains here on Vancouver Island. It is also fed by underground streams. Even the snow is sourced from evaporation, cooling and condensing, from water molecules anywhere on and around the planet. It is part of a life cycle: All water is connected, and we are connected to it. Water is Mother Earth’s life blood. Our blood can’t flow without water, our eyes can’t tear, our tongue can’t taste, our cells can’t dance to the music of their own vibrations. So when the earth around us is parched, we are parched. (All of this time be in communion with water, but I suggest to not touch or drink water during the ceremony till later.) Ask what are we thirsty for? Why are we parched? What do we need to quench our big thirst? Ask these questions beyond the physical level and deepen your response to the spiritual level. Begin doing this allowing everyone to meditate for a few minutes on this question. Then share what comes up. Again allow a limited time to share (about 10-15 minutes). Then move on to the next step. These words (or a suitable adaptation) can be spoken by a leader or in unison whatever works. We are grateful for our thirst; it helps us find what we are truly thirsty for. We give thanks for the oneness of life; we can know the earth and her dream for us. We adore this Creation and the One who created it; we renew our connection to the Divine, the Creator. We acknowledge that water is Life, it is living, it has a consciousness of its own. We are part of the water consciousness; we are part of water’s life and it is part of us. It lives in us and gives us life, sustenance and motion. We renew our connection with our soul. We come to the Living Water knowing we are not fully human without it. We thirst with the earth and know our thirst deeply. In knowing it we can give thanks for it because it leads us to our souls. Here you can hold hands with others in your group, and say: We thirst for: and randomly say words that come up for you; i.e. connection, peace, spirit, love, Then everyone can touch first their own hearts, then the earth with their hands, then the air around you. Then very slowly and respectfully go to the water and very gently begin by touching it. Gently and mindfully touch, swirl, wash face, even immerse if that is practical, but all done very mindfully. If the water is safe to drink the final step is to again mindfully drink it or the water you have brought with you. Allow for quite a bit of time for everyone to slowly and mindfully connect with the water and get in touch with its living spirit. Then gather on the shore again, sip water slowly mindfully, and sit quietly for a few minutes to take in the experience. Then a few songs might be sung like: Peace like a river, or other water songs. It is often also a good idea to have pencils and paper handy so participants can write down their feelings, and thoughts before you disperse. (in fact ideally it should be done before the singing). Once we leave the scene and get back into the bustle of life, we often forget the nuances of what we experienced. So, writing is very valuable and can enhance the experience for you for days to come. In your writing write some intention for yourself as well. Some small change, some attention to something, perhaps just more consciousness around water and how that might manifest in your life. Above all, stay both real and loving and grateful. A final group connect/hug/ and go on in your life with joy!
