Calling NB writers! Open to non-WFNB members as well.
Calling artists: The Jones Gallery received funding to prepare a free webinar series about online strategies for artists, and they'd like feedback about what's needed before they prepare content. Please visit the link to get more information about this project and to complete the survey.
We’re pleased to announce the launch of our virtual exhibition, "Welcome to the Twenties", featuring the works of Danika Vautour, the inaugural artist in the AX One Month Residency Ceramics. During her residency, Danika completed a series of twenty vessels crafted from white stoneware which are displayed in the virtual exhibition. These vessels showcase carefully-selected journal entries from her personal journal in 2020. Each entry documents an important event Danika exper...ienced over the course of the year. "Welcome to the Twenties" can be viewed at https://axartscentre.ca/welcome-to-the-twenties/. If you see a piece of art you'd like to purchase, just click on the title and you'll see the pricing and a link where you can purchase online and make arrangements for pickup. To learn more about the AX One Month Residency Ceramics, visit the AX website: https://axartscentre.ca/ax-one-month-residency-ceramics/ Thanks to the RBC Foundation’s Emerging Artists Project for making it possible for us to launch the AX Emerging Artist Ceramics Program at our charitable arts and culture centre.
Due to the current red phase designation, AX's gallery and offices are temporarily closed, and employees are working from home. What a wondrous, soul-filling day and evening at AX yesterday. We hosted four fabulous New Brunswick poets to film their readings and conversations with another fabulous poet, Sue Sinclair, acting as moderator. Allan Cooper, Marilyn Lerch, Jennifer Houle, and Vanessa Moeller - what a great way to spend a day, and how nice it was to be reminded what it means to host artists at the AX Centre. Thank you all, and Sue Sinclair, so much for sharing your talents and selves. It ...was genuinely moving to see you and hear your exchanged ideas and exquisite words. These readings were supposed to take place in April during National Poetry Month, but we had to reschedule due to COVID-19. Thankfully, we were able to change the format and host each poet individually, all on the same day. The readings and discussions were filmed by our Marketing and Communications Coordinator whiz Meaghan Walker, and once Meaghan's edited them and they're ready to go, we'll post the videos here and on our website. We received funding from the League of Canadian Poets as well as the provincial department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture to help make this happen.
We would like to announce that our four Children's Holiday Ceramics Workshops on Saturday, December 19 and Monday, December 21 are full! Thanks to all who signed up. If you missed this opportunity to enroll your child in a workshop, we hope to host more in the future so please watch this space!
Hi everyone - I just wanted to say thank you to those who have chosen to donate to AX this year. We weren't able to host our annual Kick AX Show fundraiser and membership drive this year due to the pandemic, with obvious ramifications. We see your generosity and are grateful for it. If you would like to renew your membership, purchase one for the first time, or simply make a donation to AX (all of these will net you a charitable tax receipt), please visit our website. Like m...any of our other offerings, we've migrated our donations and membership options online, and it's really easy to give: https://axartscentre.ca/supporting-ax/. Thanks, sincerely. Jane Simpson Executive and Artistic Director
AX is pleased to announce that yesterday we renovated our historic 12 Maple Avenue location, thanks to support from Farm Credit Canada's AgriSpirit Fund. This project allowed us to insulate the basement, which will reduce the building's heat loss and allow us to redirect the savings on heating to our arts and cultural programing for the Sussex region.
Hi all, First, we want to thank you, our AX members, visitors, and our community, for your support since the beginning of the pandemic. A special thank you to everyone who has participated in our events and workshops in the past few months, which has helped sustain us. As of October 9, masks are mandatory in all indoor public places in New Brunswick. This means that you will need to wear a mask at the centre, including visits to the AX gallery and Knocks Café, as well as for... workshops. We appreciate your understanding and thank you in advance for helping to protect staff, volunteers, and other visitors. We look forward to seeing you soon, and thanks again for helping us all stay safe.

AX is pleased to present a talk with Tzigane Caddell, curator of the current exhibition The Carnegie Legacy. Tzigane generously sat down with us at AX and talked about the exhibition and demonstrated the fibre art of rug hooking. Her work and the other rugs in the exhibition were crafted by the Carnegie Rughookers and they are on display at the AX Gallery until December 19, 2020.

AX is actively seeking applications for our AX Emerging Artist Ceramics Program. This program is designed to support artists who have finished their formal ceramics training and don’t yet have the capacity to open their own studio. Participants will benefit from a 4-month, 30 hrs/wk paid position in either fall or spring. They will work in a fully equipped ceramics studio and will have access to mentors to help smooth the transition from student or hobbyist to full-time professional. Artists will also have the opportunity to earn additional income through teaching workshops and selling their own work. Fall 2020 application deadline is September 27. Visit https://axartscentre.ca/ax-emerging-artist-ceramics-program/ for more details and how to apply.
