The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a structure in the knee that primarily restricts the tibia’s movement on the femur and provide rotational stability. Some common symptoms that a patient might experience may include but is not limited to: - Rapid swelling with pain - Instability with weight bearing - A Popping sensation in the knee - Loss of full range of motion... - Tenderness along joint line Treatment will vary upon the patient situation but physical therapy is recommended to restore function to knee and strengthen the muscles surrounding the joint as the swelling goes down. If surgery is recommended, physical therapy after surgery will focus on returning motion to the joints and strength to the muscles. A strengthening program will be implemented to protect the new ligament and allow the athlete to return to sport. If you are suffering from an ACL injury, please call us at 519-632-8822, Ayr Physiotherapy Clinic, to book an appointment with one of our Physiotherapists today!

Ayr PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINIC Carpal Tunnel Syndrome PINS & NEEDLES ... The carpal tunnel is the tunnel in the wrist bones through which muscles, blood vessels, and nerves pass from the forearm to the hand. This space is small. Any condition that decreases the size of the carpal tunnel or enlarges the tissues inside the tunnel can create symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Symptoms may begin as a pain in the palm side of the wrist or in the palm itself. It can radiate into the thumb, index finger and middle finger. This can progress to a tingling sensation and numbness. It is often noticeable upon first waking in the morning and may interfere with your ability to grasp objects during the day. The causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be different with each person. Sometimes it is a result of a condition that causes swelling such as arthritis, a fractured wrist, pregnancy, or diabetes. It can also be caused by vibrating tools/machinery, repetitive activities of the wrist/hand during work, everyday activities or sports. Physiotherapists can help treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment involves mobilization of the median nerve, carpal bones and flexor tendons. Laser and ultrasound may be used to shrink inflamed nerves and night splinting may be recommended to optimize positioning of the wrist. This can reduce pressure or inflammation and pain, as well as improve strength in the hand. Call 519-632-8822 Ayr PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINIC Physiotherapy...Itll move you.
