Lets talk about GNATS You may find that they look very similar to fruit flies, but dont be fooled. These nasty little buggers you find flying around your plants are not fruit flies! Although they are not harmful to your plants, gnats breed and lay eggs in the top inch or two of your moist soil, meaning if not dealt with, you will have TONS of them. Here are some tips to rid your babies of these nasty little things! -Neem oil/water solution(spray the leaves and top layer of... soil lightly. You can also directly spray any gnats you see flying around to kill them) -Hydrogen peroxide/water solution (hydrogen peroxide is not harmful to your plants if watered down. You can can use a 50/50 solution and top water your plants with it. This will kill any eggs that have been layed already, while giving extra oxygen to the roots of your plant) Diatomaceous earth (after treating your soil, and or repotting your plant, you can sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the top of your soil to prevent them from returning. It is not harmful to people, plants or pets, just try not to breathe it in while sprinkling it) Gnats are almost inevitable when you have a large collection of plants, especially when you have plants that require frequent watering. Fun tip! Pasta water, rice water and water from which you hard boil your eggs in is GREAT for your plants! Unsalted of course!
