Early in October, at the Shelly Park Centre, B2B held a "socially-distanced" play-reading of Peter Quilter's JUST THE TICKET. Pictured are ~ Joanne Bush, Kathy Harper, Jacqollyne Keath, Laurel Johannson, Diane Korol, Sherri Wade, Susan Bradshaw, Caron Byrne, Lorna McLellan, Gwendolyn Flynn, Ruth Morrison, Hilary Whelton, Kristin Forester. The participants universally loved the play, as well as the opportunity to read it together out loud. With gratitude to organizer-photographer Gary Brown, B2B's Artistic Director.

At this time of year, we should be sharing exciting details of our 2021 season. You'd be eagerly opening your Visitors Guide and we’d be showing a first glimpse... at the stars of next year’s productions. While we don’t have those items to share with you yet, fear not we will be back in 2021! And we will provide those details in the new year. Right now, however, we must all wait patiently for news that will allow a safe and viable return to the stage. From Broadway to the West End, from rock concerts to blockbuster films, opening venues to large audiences feels like an impossible dream, always just beyond our reach. Throughout the arc of the pandemic, we have favoured a course of patience and due diligence. Our goal has been to make announcements as definitive as possible, as change and uncertainty are unsettling for all of us. So we have decided to hold off on our announcement until we can present you with something tangible. When we were forced to cancel our season in April, we had invested $20 million in creating the 2020 season. Then poof! Suddenly, the painstaking work of our actors, directors and designers evaporated. The impeccable work of our artists and artisans didn’t see the light of day. As the classics teach us, we must learn from history, and recent history has had more lessons than most of us would wish. With regards to planning, we know that we need to have a clearer picture of what lies ahead before building a 2021 season. And, as we read about the reintroduction of tighter restrictions, we realize that 2021 will need to be scalable, allowing us to quickly adjust our audience sizes in response to changing circumstances. Unanticipated changes of plan not only inconvenience you, they weaken the financial health of the Festival. But there is another reason why we want to hold off on announcing our season, an artistic one. Theatre is always of the moment. We want to give you a season that responds to what’s going on in the world, one that engages you, entertains you, makes you think and feel. We need that. And that’s what we will give you next season. In the meantime we are doing the essential work of creating a safe environment for you here in Stratford, including some surprises to make 2021 unforgettable in a good way! When the world is ready, when you are ready, our stages will spring to life again. We can’t wait to see you!
