We especially love supporting and promoting Canadian books and authors at Backbeat. I just finished reading Son of a Trickster by the talented Eden Robinson and I can confirm this one lives up to all of the accolades it’s received. The first of a trilogy (Trickster Drift came out a year later and the third book, Return of the Trickster, is still to come), it’s also been adapted for the small screen. Trickster will air on CBC beginning October 7th, so there’s still time to read the book ahead of the series. Just $6.95 on our shelves now!

They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums. Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century. AUTOBAHN 1974, RADIO-ACTIVITY 1975, TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS 1977, THE MAN-MACHINE 1978, COMPUTER WORLD 1981, TECHNO POP 1986, THE MIX 1991, TOUR DE FRANCE 2003. Their compositions, using innovative techniques, electronic sounds and synthetic voices combined with computerized rhythms, had a major musical influence on Electro, Hip Hop, Techno and Synth-Pop. In 2014, Kraftwerk founders Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider were honoured with the "Lifetime Achievement" Grammy Award.

Future - High Off Life (Indie Exclusive Colour Vinyl)... High Off Life is the eighth studio album by Future, executive produced by DJ Esco who also produced Future's 2015 mixtape 56 Nights and 2016's Purple Reign. It features guest appearances by DaBaby, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott, and Young Thug. Jackboys Jackboys Jackboys is a collective and group of American rappers signed to Scott's Cactus Jack Records, which is made up of Scott himself, Sheck Wes, Don Toliver, Luxury Tax, and Scott's DJ, Chase B. It features guest appearances from Rosalía, Lil Baby, Quavo and Offset from the trap trio Migos, Young Thug, and Pop Smoke. NOFX and Frank Turner - West Coast Vs. Wessex How often does the leader of one of your favorite bands ask you to do a split album? Where his band covers your songs? Singer-songwriter Frank Turner found himself in that situation last year, when Fat Mike of NOFX asked if he wanted to do a split covers album. "West Coast vs. Wessex" shows NOFX filtering five of Frank Turner's songs through their singular sensibility, with Turner doing the same on five NOFX songs. But these aren’t simply double-time versions of Turner's folk-punk tunes or slow, acoustic reworkings of NOFX's iconic SoCal punk anthems. Both NOFX and Frank Turner took time to play with the possibilities each other's music presented. They also put a lot of thought into the songs they chose to cover. Both groups really wanted to songs that presented an opportunity to create something unique, and bring something to the song that really made it their own. The Frank Turner-Fat Mike Mutual Admiration Society has produced 10 hooky reimaginings of each other's music. The novelty may pique listeners' curiosity, but the songs will keep them coming back.

A note about RSD Drops on August 29. Hey Backbeaters! As you know, this year has certainly been a little wonky. Record Store Day is traditionally in April, but this year it got pushed to June and then again they decided to delay and change it up. Now there are 3 days of releases (monthly) called RSD Drops starting this coming Saturday, August 29, then on September 26 and finally on October 24. Since the way we’ve been able to operate our store this year has been - and still i...s - a little different, with health and safety as our priority, we’ve decided to not participate fully with the RSD Drops at this time. Instead, we’ve ordered a handful of the releases and if/when they arrive, we will let you know exactly what we have in stock. We want to keep you, our great customers, safe and informed so you don't line up unnecessarily for a release that we may not have in stock. We have a limit of 3 people allowed in our shop browsing records at a time, so even a small line of 20 people could take a couple of hours to facilitate. Please check our website and/or this Facebook page on Friday evening for the list of titles we will have in stock/available on Saturday. Thanks for all of your support and understanding.
