I want to inspire others to enjoy the moments that we do have here on earth. There's so much more after we leave, and in making an impression on those around us. I was once told by someone much older and very wise man, " You have a special gift, the person that you are now and the person that you will grow into will do so much more. You have a way of making others feel good about themselves and that's not a skill, it's something you have inside of you." We are all special,... and have so much to offer. Never stop learning. Never stop trying to help one other. Always do your best at making someone smile. There can be many reasons why you are here, but figuring out what your destiny is, what your future holds, all takes time. Some people figure out their gifts early in life and others 50 years later. Hey everyone I would love your support! Christina Hooper here, I am a personal trainer and lifestyle coach from Woodlands, Manitoba and since Covid started in March, I had to stop all 12 in person classes I was teaching. I am a wife and mother of our 5 beautiful children this has been a crazy year. As many small businesses here in Manitoba, ... I have suffered from the losses of these months with my buisness Backcountry Fitness & Conditioning I have been running a couple outdoor classes in 2 different towns per week since the opening phases, but with the uncertainty things numbers are very low UNFORTUNATE our covid numbers continue to go up here, its a very tough for small businesses to recover from this year. In April, I decided to go out on a journey and start something different and go virtual and absolutely love it. I renovated my basement to make way for virtual classes and its been so amazing. Since Spring, I have been running private paid virtual classes on a vip fb group. I am charging $28 per month and have 40-60 participants each month(providing them with access to 4-5 workouts each week on a private YouTube link). So the YouTube channel originally was for me to create content for people to have access to free workouts. [Push Up Challenge] Are you up for this? 365 Days of Push Ups(Don't worry there are rest days)... Time to push through the mental barriers and show yourself that you can dopush-ups for a whole entire year! Yes, that's right 12 months of push-ups. This is how this challenge is going to work. There are 3 categories: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. BEGINNER - will start with 10 push-ups per day in January and add 1 additionalpush up per month until December. Do you have insecurities? If I asked you to name one thing you would list off 10. If I asked you what you liked about yourself you would probably start with the dislikes.... If I asked you to love yourself before your journey begins could you do that ? Our world tells us that when you have an insecurity that it can be fixed. But...You have to think about it for a second. If you are a parent and raising little ones(or have been), how many times did you have to assure them of something when they feel scared or insecure? Now turn it around to how the market and industry is like a parent. When we need something to fulfill us or make us feel better, items or services focus in on our weaknesses and insecurities, so that we feel comfortable trusting that market that's 'taking care of us'. If you are feeling insecure about the image you see in the mirror then make some changes. Please don't go out and buy a quick fix of some sort to give you the temporary satisfaction of feeling like your making a difference. Aim at loving the person you are today. And if you want to be stronger, leaner, have more muscle and feel good in your own skin ? Than try something new! If you want to see changes and feel good about yourself make sure you invest in a program that will invest back to help you, not enable you. If you want more muscle, lift weights!! If you want to fit into your favourite jeans, develop good eating habits and move! If you want to have more energy, focus on fuelling your body and lifting weights. So stop letting your insecurities enable you and be the reason you are changing. Get confident and actually do something to feel better, don't just think about it. Our children are watching and learning from us and they definitely don't care about extra skin or stretch marks. [THANK YOU ] 2020 has been one spectacular year for Backcountry Fitness and Conditioning In our 5th year of business, we were very happy to be part of many personal transformations, multiple changes to wardrobes, pounds left in 2020, belts notched for good, and confidence soaring.... We were very fortunate enough to see many new faces to 2020. With our new adventures to the virtual side, we have had clients all the way from Arizona, Phoenix, British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario too These clients have built stamina, strength, increased their endurance, and fitness levels. These busy moms and dads came in from their hectic schedules and never complained about the hard work, yet they embraced every challenge, took every finisher on as it was a test, and pushed to their own personal levels. Here at Backcountry Fitness we work on building confidence and strength from within, and focus on our strength inside and out. Many of our members started 2020 off with the usual fitness goals and just wanted to get moving. Some couldn’t do a push up from the knees and even started their pushups on the wall(which it totally amazing and a place to start). By the end of 2020 I am absolutely stunned when I watched these once ‘beginner’ levels switching over to intermediate and advanced levels as they complete full push-ups and 4 minute long planks because they are now strong enough, and have the core strength and confidence to try it. Before you say that you can’t, WAIT and see if you can. You will not get results overnight, I am not here to claim any sort of quick solutions. Clients were dedicated to show up to class weekly whether it was online or in person. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This new year will you step out of your comfort zone, try something new, and completely change your life ?? [Details for 2020 coming soon!] Meet Joanne Magura! Joanne also joined us and committed to our Backcountry Fitness Push-up Challenge at the beginning of 2019. The hard work and dedication that was put into the year really paid off for Joanne. ... She showed so many of us that all things are possible, with consistency and dedication; it can be done. In 2019, Joanne completed 121 classes with us and 21,000 pushups !!!!! Wow There was never a time in class that you didn’t see Joanne pumping out extra pushups to be sure she made her daily quota. When she wasn’t doing pushups in class, I new that she would join Jenn Brown on hockey game nights and get those pushups on !! Joanne, I am truly amazed at your progress and I am so proud of you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Read her journey below: When I first committed myself to the push-up challenge, I just wanted to add an exercise that I can do daily and to prove to myself that age was just a number. One year later it has done and taught me so much more. One, it was an exercise I could do at anytime and anywhere. I didn’t need any equipment and they didn’t take long to do. Two, there are so many ways I did the push-ups. I did them fast and slow. I modified them from full to knee, narrow, wide and staggered etc. Three, it engaged my body from top to bottom. It greatly improved my overall strength and muscular endurance, as well as helped my cardiovascular system. It was a great addition to my three weekly bootcamp workouts. Some days during the past 365 were not always easy. But I managed to stay committed to the journey. Moving into a new year, I will continue to do push-ups every day. (Did I just say that out loud!). Lol. I also look forward to new challenges for 2020! (Unless they are burpees!). PS: Age is just a number. It doesn’t define you and it does not hold you back from anything you want to do. Only you can set your limits on how far you can go! If you stay consistent and committed to something, changes will happen. [DETAILS FOR 2021 COMING LATER TODAY] SEE HER AMAZING TESTIMONY Meet Jenn!... If you have seen her weekly posts you are missing out! Jenn took on the task of our 2019 Pushup challenge and completed over 13,000 pushups this year !! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since I like a good challenge, both physical and mental, I thought OF COURSE I’M IN!!! So on January 8th, 2019 I signed the contract to participate. Why would I sign a contract? Because then I felt I would be more accountable and also more likely to keep with it. As part of the contract, it was asked that you post a photo and/or tag #BackcountryFITmoms and #BackcountryFITpushups2019 in my posts on the first of each month. I decided to post my picture most days (almost every day) after completing my daily push-ups. Some days I did not post at all, but I did get my push-ups done! (except for rest days) There were 3 categories to choose from beginner, intermediate and advanced. I felt I was in the intermediate category, so that’s what I chose. In January I started with 20 push-ups per day, and now that it is December, I am at 37 daily push-ups, with 2 rest days per month. I will admit that some months I had more rest days, but there were also many days that I did far more than the daily push-ups during my workouts, so I did not feel like I skipped at all. There were even nights that I would jump out of bed if I hadn’t done my push-ups and do them before I could sleep!! Along the journey I have had a few people message me to join in and I welcomed them with open arms! I even said If you have to start at 1 push-up today, you can do 2 tomorrow, etc. 1 push-up is better than zero!! From the beginning of the year to now, every push-up is still a challenge in itself, but as I look back at my pictures, I am so happy with the results." This is my journey into 2021 of healthy eating and healthy lifestyle as a wife & mom of 5, personal trainer and coach, and country girl. Lets clear out the closet of SELF DOUBT and ANXIETY face the new year with a whole new outlook. I am a wife and busy mother of 5 children, twin 19 year olds and 9 year old boy, 14 and 6 year old girls.... I own my own fitness and health and wellness business now for 6 years helping other woman live a healthier lifestyle. Now let me tell you this, I have had my fair share of broken hearts, life hurdles and nervous breakdowns. I have anxiety that some days moves the mountains inside of me for longer then I would have ever imagined. Life is not all about rainbows and lollipops, it has dungeons and dragons every once in a while too. I have learnt over the years to embrace everything that happens in my life. Now this doesn't mean I agree nor condone some of the things that I can't control or the mistakes I make. Do you know what I have learnt? That while riding those dragons down in the dungeons we need to look up and see what's right in front of us. I have learnt a couple of things: 1.) We simply cannot do it all. It’s okay to say ‘No’. 2.) When things in your journey become something that you can’t control, find peace in the unknown, and have faith in what is yet to come. 3.) When you are a trainer, you can't help everyone unless they want to help themselves. 4.) I am happy when I helped others. 5.) When you are traveling through life sometimes the road less travelled is the way to go. Keep your eyes open to change and treasure all of the micro moments that come out of nowhere. If your kids want to dance in the kitchen to a great song, DO IT. If you want to be in better health than do it ! If you want to lose some weight and join your favourite online classes, eat healthy and drink more water than own that sh*t! The only one who is going to INSPIRE you is the person that you see in the mirror. If you do, I hope you’re geared up for a good challenge after this week it will have a powerful impact on how you feel in so many different ways! It’s the NO ADDED SUGAR challenge. That’s right we’re cleaning out ADDED sugars from our food intake! NOTE: This is NOT about eliminating natural sugars, like the kind found in fruits, plain yogurt, or veggies. Instead, this is cutting out the sugar that is ADDED to your food during preparation or processing. Make sure you read your ingredient lists carefully because there are more than 56 names for added sugar, from agave nectar to treacle. Any time you see the word nectar, syrup, or anything ending in -ose, there’s a good chance it’s added sugar! Trainers Tip #10: Do you have an emergency kit for your home? This week’s challenge might not seem wellness-related ... unless you suddenly find yourself in the middle of a storm, power outage, or another emergency!... It’s time to create or refresh your Go Bag basically a survival kit that will get you through at least 72 hours. Hopefully, you’ll never need it, but these are great to have ready-to-go just in case. Pack up the items in a backpack (or two) or luggage with wheels so you can leave at a moment’s notice (and be sure to double-check its contents every month or so). Here’s a list of items suggested by the US Department of Homeland Security and other rescue groups you may or may not need some of them: Flashlight(s) and headlamp First aid kit Plastic sheeting and duct tape in case you need to shelter in place Moist toilettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties Dust mask/cloth face covers Soap, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes Whistle (in case you need to signal for help) Cell phone chargers/backup battery Prescription medications and non-prescription pain relievers and digestion soothers Battery-powered or hand-crank radio Extra batteries Tools (wrench or pliers in case you need to turn off utilities) Multi-purpose knife with a can opener Matches in a sealed plastic bag Copies of personal papers (insurance, ID, birth certificate, etc.), sealed in plastic Paper and pencil Comb/brush/travel-size personal care items Feminine supplies and toilet paper Paper plates/towels/cups and plastic eating utensils Cash or traveler’s checks and a roll of quarters Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person Change of clothes and shoes (include layers and rain gear) Extra pair of eyeglasses/contacts Water (at least 1 gallon per person per day, for at least 3 days, for both drinking and sanitation) Food (at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food for everyone in your household) Pet food and extra water Baby formula, diapers, wipes, etc. Book or activities to keep the kids occupied Having your ‘GO BAG ready can bring you incredible peace of mind! #trainertips #12daychallenge #12daysofchristmas

Parents!!! You are doing an amazing job! In the midst of all the craziness of raising children, take the time to stop and smile.... I know it's hard. Feels tough. And darn it, sometimes seems impossible. But you need to pay attention. You need to lift your heads up and know that you are doing a great job. And please take it from me, It's a great job. We focus on everything that we 'DONT' get done in a day so of course we will focus on the negatives. Turn that around and look at the little people in your life. Between full time jobs and kids sports and activities we simply don't take time as moms and dads to just sit and enjoy what we have right around us. We are to busy screaming, ' come on guys, stop fooling around and get ready!', instead of giving hugs and cuddles. We are so focused on being present for everything in our kids lives, but are we truly there? ARE YOU PRESENT? Are you not thinking about the other million and 10 things that are on your mind at the other 23 and half hours of the day? Put your phone down and watch those children play. Instead of telling the kids to go play, go and join them. As a busy mom of littles, we need to remember our kids only want to hang out with us for a short moment and then they get busy and grow. I now have two 19 year old boys and a 14 year old girl that would rather sit in their room then sit with me(And one of the the 19 year olds moved out too). It goes by to fast. Don't get me wrong they would sit with me if I asked them too, but what did we do at 16? Hug your children every single day and don't let a moment slip away. Don't hold onto anger. Don't hold onto guilt. But most of all don't hold on to this idea that you have to be a perfect mom or dad. Just live each day as a parent. Be in the moments so that one day you will sit back and enjoy those memories and know that you did your best. Remember, you are the most important people to your little people in your life. Feeling thankful for so much Christmas brings on so many mixed emotions for us all. The hustle and bustle of buying presents, wrapping presents, last minute shopping, Christmas baking, plans to drop off goodies and presents, and strength to get through this tough time of everything else.... I even find myself getting wrapped up in the stressful part that I sometimes put aside the true meaning of Christmas. The real joy and blessing of this holiday goes back to the real meaning of Christmas. Celebrating what it truly means to be thankful. Be thankful for the birth of Jesus, and that it gives us so much more hope then not having hope. Be thankful that we live in this country when so many live in country's that face so many other hardships. Be thankful for beautiful scenery like the picture below, when others don't choose to see the beauty in the micro moments. Be thankful that we have a roof over our head when so many do not. Be thankful that we have food to eat when so many people are hungry. Be thankful that you can go out and buy gifts for others when many can't even do that. Trainer Tip #9: If you could change one thing about your nutrition/diet, what would it be? Guess what? This is YOUR WEEK!... This week’s challenge is the Healthy Intention Challenge and it puts YOU in charge. There are actually two parts. First: Choose 1 nutrition habit you’ve been wanting to add or change improving your breakfast choices, cutting or changing your snack habits, adding more veggies, etc. Second: Get it done! Come up with a plan to make it happen and then put that plan into action! Being clear about your intention and then having a plan is EVERYTHING. For example, if you decide to add 1 cup of veggies to every meal, you have to actually have veggies on in the fridge, ready to prepare and eat! Or if you want to level up the nutrition of your breakfast with oatmeal and eggs vs. a bagel, you need to be prepared! Then all you have to do is actually follow through. Day #8 Trainer Tip Welcome to your Positive Words Challenge. Have you heard the saying, If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything?... There’s some surprising and interesting research on how the words we use affect us, right down to our genes. Positive words like kindness and love strengthen areas in your brain’s frontal lobes, promoting cognitive functioning. But negative words can disrupt the genes that protect you from stress. A single negative word can boost the activity in the amygdala (some refer to it as the fear center) potentially affecting your ability to reason. Research shows that the longer you concentrate on positive words, the more it affects your brain giving you a positive view of yourself, which can spill into your view of others. And it works the exact opposite with negative words potentially leading you to a more negative view. A separate study (done at Penn State) found that 50% of all the words that people use from their every day working vocabulary to express emotions are negative. The rest? Only 30% are positive and 20% neutral. So when you’re: Having conversations with others or Thinking by yourself (and having a conversation in your head) ALWAYS think about how you can frame your thoughts and conversations with a more productive and positive perspective. This is our community. 'Backcountry Stronger' Community.... There is nothing more powerful than community. I set out in March to simply fill a void and somehow replace Bootcamps, when the world shut down. What I didn't realize is I was embarking on a journey that has blown me away. 10 months later we are here into our second shutdown(if you live in Manitoba), and now more then ever WE ALL HAVE NEEDED THIS. What many of you don't know is that you have saved me. I have dealt with many different health issues but anxiety and depression have been the BIG ONE. In December, I decided that after 10 years I was going on my own and going off anxiety and depression medication and birth control(Wow talk about hormone change ). Little did I know, a pandemic would arrive. All the flags told me to crawl back into that corner. Everything in my brain told me, YOU CAN'T do that. But. Exercise, great people and a purpose to bring you workouts each week have kept me out of that dark place. You have ALL given me a purpose that nothing in this could replace, and for that I am forever grateful Studies show that COMMUNITY give us opportunities to connect with people, to reach for our goals, and makes us feel safe and secure. Some nights you just feel too tired to take the time or maybe you are too busy. But it is ALWAYS worth the time and effort it takes to floss your teeth. It can help: cut down on bad breath reduce your risk of gum disease prevent cavities! The American Dental Association recommends flossing your teeth once a day and they say it really doesn’t matter WHEN, as long as you do it. You can even do it before or after you brush your teeth! Client Feature Friday: 1. How long have you been an online Backcountry Fitness member? I’ve been a Backcountry Fitness member on & off for the past 2.5-3 years, I’ve done in person classes and as of recent I have been actively doing the on-line classes and I’m really enjoying them and enjoy the convenience of doing them from home as it eliminates the need to travel. ... 2. What do you do for a living? Age? Tell us about yourself. I work for a Heavy Civil Construction Company in their estimating department. I am 40 years old & a mom of 2 adult children & 2 fur babies. I enjoy a large variety of outdoor activities which include: sledding, UTV rides, fishing, camping, biking, running the dog just to mention a few. Love to work on my yard & spend time with my family. 3. What was your fitness level like before? My fitness level was quite low prior taking up bootcamp classes. 4. What changes have you noticed since you started virtual bootcamp? More energy which leads to being more active, so that I can enjoy the things I love to do. Overall, I feel a lot better about yourself. 5. What do you enjoy most about Backcountry Fitness & Conditioning and your trainer, Christina Hooper? The accountability, I find when I sign up I fell that I’m committed and must do all of the classes. Every month I make sure that I have done every video, might not be on the exact date posted but they all get done. I love that Christina can put together quick & effective workouts, that burns many calories. The combination of exercises she puts forth seems to be simple but when you are in the middle of doing them, they sure are challenging and effective. 6. What advice would you give to someone that is just staring our virtual workouts? Just keep at it and be persistent, do not give up. Eventually it will become a habit & part of your routine/lifestyle. 7. Have you inspired someone in your family (or a friend) because of your change in lifestyle, if yes, how so? When meeting up with friends, I always plan a get together while going out for a walk. You can visit and be active at the same time. I now occasionally have them calling me wanting to go and walk. I have noticed that my daughter has been using my equipment, although we haven’t trained together, I’m happy that she’s starting to be active as well. Tammy Bours

Day #4 Your trainers tip for the day: Do you know how many steps you take on average every day?... This week’s challenge will help jumpstart your fitness AND rev up your metabolism! Your Challenge: walk at least 5,000 steps every day, which is about 2 miles depending on how long your stride is. Getting 5,000 steps is a good baseline number for boosting your activity level out of the sedentary zone, especially if you have a desk job or you’re just getting back into fitness. This is important for a LOT of reasons, because being sedentary is linked with all sorts of issues. Plus, ramping up your steps also helps you boost your NEAT your non-exercise activity thermogenesis, which are the calories you burn doing daily activities (vs during workouts). It’s a major player in your body’s fuel burn each day! You can use an activity tracker, a pedometer, or even your smartphone to track your steps. It doesn’t matter HOW or WHERE you get your steps you can even march in place if you have to. The point is to move those legs and be active!
