Through social distancing TODAY (not tomorrow), we can all be a part of the fight to delay the advance of COVID-19. Technical and account support services remain available for all Background Backup customers and partners, but they will be delivered from employee homes for the foreseeable future - quite likely into April. No change in contact methods or coordinates - our systems and models were designed from day 1 to be nimble and allow for this, for business continuity reas...ons. Calling it an end to the week: two separate 72 TB storage deployments have just been brought online in our secure, Canadian (Ottawa area) data centre. Happy that the weather warmed up a bit; it was a balmy -12* C / 10* F when the sun finally set over our cooling pond. Keeping our client's future restore options available, safe and sound, we're proud to be a key part of their #BusinessContinuity plans.

Update: Data Centre operations continuing uninterrupted under generator power. "On September 21, 2018 at 18:00 EDT, our Data Centre experienced loss of utility power due to extreme weather conditions. All generators functioned as designed and are currently running. Client load is protected by UPS and is under Generator Power. There is no customer impact anticipated."

SERVICE UPDATE: All servers are online and data is flowing, but we will be continuing to monitor service levels through the night/morning for performance validation. With this, our unfortunate service interruption is nearing completion - thanks to over a dozen Rogers and Broadband Maintenance technicians working through the night to restring, splice and test 480 strands of fibre optic cabling after an over-height vehicle ripped 200m from utility poles about 8 KM away from our... Kanata data centre racks. Background Backup's founder and CTO stopped by the work site at around 2am with a couple dozen cheeseburgers and 20 cups worth of hot coffee to thank and help fuel the recovery team; thankfully the rain had stopped and people were in great humour as they continued with the hard, precision work. Happy to be back online; to confirm, all configured client devices which were seeking out our affected servers are reconnecting automatically
