Due to the terrible flooding which has occurred in Medicine Hat as a result of the storm that surged through on Thursday afternoon we have decided to offer FREE... asbestos testing of water damaged areas to those homeowners who have been affected. Although it is extremely upsetting and distressing to have your basement flooded please do not place yourselves and your families at further risk by beginning to demolish water damaged areas without first testing for asbestos. Undisturbed asbestos containing materials pose far less likelihood of being a risk to your health than materials that have been disturbed. Some of the most common materials which may contain asbestos in a basement are: Linoleum or vinyl sheet flooring (these can contain a horrifyingly high 60%+ of asbestos) Vinyl floor tiles Drywall joint compound Textured ceilings This is by no means an exhaustive list. Be warned that many floors contain multiple layers so just because the top layer is new doesnt mean that the flooring below is safe.
