Happy #featurefunderfriday! We want to say a big thank you to our friends at North Shore Orthodontics who have been incredible champions of our program! This week they helped us with a special mission: packing 1,800 hygiene kits to include in our last deliveries before the holidays. We couldn't have done it without their helping hands! "We are privileged to help Backpack Buddies in their mission to reduce the impacts of child poverty across BC. As well as being a fantastic ...way for the whole team to get together to give back to our community, it was a lot of fun! It was particularly fitting that we were packing hygiene bags with toothbrushes & toothpaste, as we have all seen first-hand the negative impact of poverty on dental health. A letter from our Co-founder on Giving Tuesday: I know this has been a difficult year for you. That's why today I want to send a note to remind you that hope is still alive. I know, because I've seen it. Just like you, I've watched with growing alarm as more families struggle to make ends meet and put food on the table, many for the first time. These stories of newly vulnerable families, having to make the hard choice between putting food on the table or keeping their lights ...on, are stories that personally keep me up at night. Despite all this, in the face of such challenges, I have witnessed more love, generosity, compassion, and resilience than I could have ever imagined. And it's because of you. Your support for Backpack Buddies has kept us going each and every day when we were faced with new and what seemed like insurmountable challenges. So on this Giving Tuesday, I want to say thank you. Thank you for showing up for our organization, but more importantly, for the children in your communities. Thank you for showing us love and believing in us - and believing in the kids we serve. Feature Funder Friday time! Backpack Buddies is so thankful to be partnering with CIBC Wood Gundy through Miracle Day! Their support has enabled us to provide bags for 50 kids for the ENTIRE school year! Here's what Jeff Watchorn, Vice President at CIBC Wood Gundy had to say: "For over 25 years CIBC Wood Gundy Bentall has been providing food support to vulnerable children throughout the Lower Mainland via our annual CIBC Miracle Day. We are thrilled to support Backpack Buddies who are committed to feeding Children during weekends. We believe fundamentally that children have the right to food security in the communities in which they live, learn and play...and we are doing our part to support this."

All across the province families are facing more challenges than ever before. Families like Heidi’s are among the thousands who have experienced job loss and insecurity, impacting their ability to put food on the table. After being connected with Backpack Buddies, Heidi was able to access food each week for her two kids, helping to remove some of the stress and burden. The need is greater than ever before. Backpack Buddies is proud to be among the charities featured in Amazon Canada’s recent Employee Donation Match, which was launched in order to help meet the unprecedented challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon matched 100% of employee donations, as part of its longstanding commitment to fighting childhood hunger and family homelessness. Backpack Buddies has received a total donation of $150,000 through the Amazon Canada Employee Donation Match, which will fill 10...,000 backpacks with 90,000 meals - outstanding!
