Dear customers, vendors, friends and supporters of our Baddeck Farmers Market. We would like to wish you Happy Holidays and to thank you for your support despite of the significantly shorter and altered season! 2020 year has certainly not turned out the way any of us imagined. We hope and wish 2021 will be very different in a positive way and we all will be able to begin a slow return to the way of life as we knew it before pandemic hit. So once again, Happy Holidays and all the best in 2021 to you and your family and friends! See you in 2021! BFM

Baddeck Farmers Market 21.11.2020

Baddeck Farmers Market would like to THANK YOU for your support and participation in the challenging 2020 market season. Due to COVID restrictions, our market season was much shorter than usual, but we tried our best to make your shopping experience as pleasant as possible under the circumstances. Making market events successful is a team effort. They would not be what they are with some chain links missing. All of us, customers, vendors and organizers play a vital role in the process. And we very much appreciate your participation. So once again, THANK YOU ALL and looking forward to 2021 Baddeck Market season! Stay safe and healthy! BFM

Good sunny afternoon, I am actually saying SUNNY afternoon :) Not sure how the hurricane looked like in other parts of Nova Scotia, but it seems like here in Baddeck TEDDY was quite soft and cuddly (so far)..:) But enough of the weather chit-chat and back to business. Today we would like to introduce a brand new vendor at our Baddeck Farmers Market. The vendor is Sweet Mountain Farm https://www.facebook.com/SweetMountainFarmNS/?ref=br_rs located in Ohio Valley, Antigonish ar...ea. We are very excited about this new addition and their unique product. Here is a short info about the farm. Sweet Mountain Farm is a 6th generation family farm located in the Ohio Valley, just outside of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. We specialize in a range of foods and products that respect plant and animal biodiversity, our precious water, forests and our human community. The core of our farm is our 100% grass-fed beef operation, however we also offer sustainably harvested, milled and kiln dried flooring. We are also very excited to announce that our farm will soon be able to supply our community with fresh-ground, spray- free wheat flour, from what we believe will be Nova Scotia's first commercial stone grain mill! So there you have it, folks. Sweet Mountain Farm will be selling their Stone Milled Whole Wheat flour and Unbleached White flour, Spray Free. Both types come in 1kg or 2kg bags. This product is for PREORDER ONLY!!! So if you would like to try it or stock up on this locally harvested and stone milled flour, please click on the link below and fill out the PREORDER form. It is easy and quick. Don't miss on this opportunity, because we will not have extra bags available at the time of the BEST OF NOVA SCOTIA BADDECK MARKET. The deadline for all orders is October 9th! https://form.jotform.com//best-of-nova-scotia-pre-order-fo Cheers, BFM

Good pre-hurricane Monday morning to you all! It looks like it will be a dandy day despite the heavy frost we had this morning. Hopefully Mother Nature, hand in hand with Teddy, will go easy on us the next two days. I was going to remind you to stock up on storm chips, but since we are Farmers Market and want to promote healthy eating, I am going to suggest to stock up on delicious fresh salad made out of local ingredients ..(and a bit of storm chips..). And talking about ...salads and fresh produce, let me introduce our brand new vendor Cathy Munro from Bramble Hill Farm. Here is an introduction of this unique farm in Cathy Munro's words: "Bramble Hill Farm offers year-round microgreen salad mixes grown in Pictou County Nova Scotia. With a refrigeration-life of up to 14 days from harvest, you can be sure it will be fresh when you go to make lunch! These are the greens for every meal: make a salad, add to smoothies, pump up your sandwiches, top pizzas, mix into soup. Load up on an easy way to make every meal healthier." Visit our website for a listing of where you can purchase our greens year-round. While you are there join our newsletter and get recipe and healthy meal ideas delivered weekly to your email box! www.bramblehill.ca Hmmm..looking at the beautiful photos and learning more about Cathy's produce sure made me hungry for some delicious freshness..:) Cathy's produce will be available for purchase for the very first time at our Best of Nova Scotia Market happening on October 17th at Victoria Highland Civic Centre parking lot. Hello from rather hot Baddeck Just a reminder our Baddeck Street Market (organized by Baddeck Farmers Market) is on this Saturday August 1st (10am - 1pm). It is a park and walk about type of the market. All vendors stations are located along the main street of Baddeck (Chebucto street). Baddeck is not too large, so the best way is to find a convenient parking and then just stroll up and down the street. Vendors have prepared wide variety of goodies for you to enjoy (edible, wearable..or unique gifts). Come and have a great time strolling in the fresh air. We will have your regular favorite vendors and also few brand new ones! Check out our updated (final) list of all participating vendors! :) Enjoy the day..BFM

Baddeck Farmers Market 28.02.2020

Good afternoon all, so, here is a little teaser. The market board had their meeting, where they evaluated the experimental Market Loop, which was very well received by both, shoppers and vendors and also the whole Baddeck community. They came to a decision that the market will continue during 2020 season. In what form and which dates and location, all those details will be posted tomorrow. So please STAY TUNED for the update! :)

Baddeck Farmers Market 17.02.2020

Wow...what an awesome event we had today! We would like to thank ALL customers very much for travelling to Baddeck and supporting local vendors! Much appreciated! And of course BIG thank you to all vendors for giving our experimental Market Loop a chance and participating. In our opinion it was a great market! Many customers showed up, but everybody was following social distancing in a very respectful way. The Village of Baddeck certainly came alive today and many commented it ALMOST felt like a regular July day, with addition of facemasks and social distancing. :) Baddeck Market board will have a meeting soon and decide, how the 2020 Baddeck Market season will look like. We will keep you all posted as soon as the decision is made. In the meantime, enjoy our beautiful island and stay safe! :)

Baddeck Farmers Market 04.02.2020

What a fabulous day we are having today and guess what?! ...It is going to be a nice day tomorrow too! Yeehaa! For many months we all have been very good and we "Stayed the blazes home". Now the COVID-19 numbers look pretty good, so although we can not be complacent and act like it is all back to normal, we can still enjoy some activities and events, especially the outdoor ones. One of those events will be our tomorrows experimental BFM Market Loop in Baddeck (10am - 1pm). Co...me and see our vendors and do some local shopping while still following the NS health guidelines! One of the last minute vendors, who will participate at our market will be Cory Moore (Nova Soapia). You should definitely put his product on your shopping list, because he will help you to "Stay the Blazes Clean"...and it sure is important especially these days! Cory is a returning vendor and he handcrafts high quality cold process soap in a wide variety, locally in our beautiful Cape Breton. The patterns are just mesmerizing and the witty names will make you chuckle. Each bar of Cory's soap is unique. His product is a perfect gift item. Cory will be stationed at #4 location, just up the road from Baddeck information center at the corner of Twining and Grant street. So just a reminder once more, our drive-through or park&walk experimental BFM Market Loop will take place tomorrow, Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm) at 12 different locations in Baddeck area. We have 21 vendors participating. Hope to see you tomorrow! See more

Baddeck Farmers Market 02.02.2020

Well...we will tell you what. We think you deserve a treat! And the fact is treat does not always have to be the kind that lasts "seconds on your lips...and ages on your hips!". It can be a treat of the bling-bling kind. Such as a piece of Petra Designs (www.facebook.com/petra.leblanc) jewelry. Petra LeBlanc the owner and designer and self-taught jewelry artist has been selling her unique pieces at our market for the past 7 years. Petra's preferred material is copper, but she... also works with brass, bronze and sterling silver with addition of Cape Breton sea glass and beach rocks. Petra discovered her passion for jewelry making 9 years ago, when she purchased her first spool of wire and set of small pliers and with a help of you tube videos wrapped her first sea glass/wire jewelry pieces....and the rest is history :) If you want to see Petra and the other wonderful vendors come to our experimental BFM Market Loop on Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm). We will have 12 separate locations set up around the town of Baddeck as indicated on the map. Hope to see you all there! :) See more

Baddeck Farmers Market 31.01.2020

Happy rainy Thursday everyone, nice to get a little break from the sunshine. I am sure, if you take a minute and watch your lawn, you will be able to actually see it grow today! ;) But the good news is, there is no rain in the forecast for Saturday! We have last 3 vendors to introduce today. The first one is a returning vendor Nika Feldman. Nika is a very talented fashion designer who studied designing and textiles at universities such as Pratt Institute in NY, NSCAD in Halif...ax and Kyoto University of Arts, Kyoto, Japan. In the times of COVID-19 Nika saw a need for unique designers face masks and that is the product she will be bringing to our market on Saturday. They are one-of-a-kind, reversible, reusable, adjustable, double ply, pleated and made from all natural fabrics such as cotton, linen & hemp. Lots of vintage & designer prints. There is a single elastic band measuring 40 long for easy on & off. The quality of Nika's masks is superb and the patterns are absolutely beautiful! Come and see Nika and many other vendors on Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm) in Baddeck! :) See more

Baddeck Farmers Market 16.01.2020

..Blueberries anyone? If you are like us and LOVE adding blueberries to almost every desert we make (blueberry pancakes with local maple syrup are the best), then you will have a chance to stock up this Saturday. Jim MacDonald from Margaree Wild Blueberries will be selling his frozen berries and also delicious pure blueberry juice. He will be at our Saturday market event. And just a reminder this experimental BFM Market Loop will take place on Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm) on 12 separate locations within Baddeck area. We will be posting a user friendly map with locations and all vendors participating.

Baddeck Farmers Market 30.12.2019

..and FINALLY here is the promised user friendly (we hope) map of all the locations and vendors for our upcoming BFM Market Loop. The event will take place on Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm) in the are of Baddeck. As you can see, if you enjoy walking, you can park your car and shop and walk to the next station. Or maybe repark your car couple of times. Whatever you prefer..:) We are looking forward to see you on Saturday!

Baddeck Farmers Market 12.12.2019

...our second vendor to introduce today is Robin's Warm & Cozy. This is what Robin Bushell, the owner, says about her small business. "I began knitting and crocheting about 10 years ago and haven't looked back since. It was once a source of relaxation now it is a passion." Robin will be selling her handmade crochet and knitted items, made locally in Cape Breton. She continues to make new designs regularly and is happy to accept custom orders. Now, you might think, it is too h...ot right now to be thinking about buying a hat or mitts. But seriously...you HAVE TO go and check out her designs. The material is so nice and fluffy and cozy and wonderful, you will not be able to resist and buy a hat or mitts or both...and then you are all set for the winter to come. And believe me, it WILL come and it will happen in no time. Then all the other people who did not visit Robin will be jealous of your good planning and wishing they had done that too! ;) And the usual reminder this experimental BFM Market Loop will take place on Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm) on 12 separate locations within Baddeck area. We will be posting a user friendly map with locations and all vendors later TODAY, so please keep your eyes peeled for the post! :) See more

Baddeck Farmers Market 05.12.2019

...and another nice warm morning in Cape Breton! How lucky we are, all things considered, to be living in such a beautiful place! But before I get too carried away by the beauty of our island, I should focus on what is really important. Introducing more of our vendors. The first vendor today is a returning vendor Paul Eyking , Eyking farms, located in Millville. Paul will be bringing fresh vegetables and herbs. This Saturday he will have spring onions, dill and other herbs, p...arsley, seedless CUCUMBERS (yum), leaf lettuce, Romaine lettuce, Iceberg lettuce, rhubarb and white/brown eggs. We are pleased Paul decided to come back after his first full season with our market in 2019. :) Just a reminder, this experimental BFM Market Loop will take place on Saturday July 11th (10am - 1pm) on 12 separate locations within Baddeck area. We will be posting a user friendly map with locations and all vendors later TODAY, so please keep your eyes peeled for the post! :) See more

Baddeck Farmers Market 28.11.2019

Good evening...the day sort of slipped away from me. How did that happen? ;) I was planning on making 2 more vendor introduction posts today, but now I have time only for one. We are happy to introduce Brosendale Farms. Megan Brosens and her husband Matt purchased a dairy farm located in East Skye Glen couple of years ago. Here is a little bio provided to us by the farmers themselves: We farm together and with our two daughters, Sophie (6) and Heidi (5). Our herd is primarily... Jerseys. As a fun hobby we also produce maple syrup from our maple trees grown in our pastures. With my Scottish heritage I love to make Scottish treats. Our favorite is Traditional Scottish Tablet and Shortbread cookies. We also make Stroop Waffles, a thin cookie baked in a waffle iron, and filled with a delicious cinnamon-molasses syrup. You may have seen us at the Mabou farmers market, in the Brook village grocery store or at the Baddeck Christmas market! We are very pleased Megan and her lovely family will be joining us on, hopefully, more regular bases. :) They will be participating at our July 11th BFM Market Loop. Yeey! I am certainly planning on tasting some of the traditional Scottish Treats! How about you? See more
