On Wednesday we were scheduled to shoot a series of fashion-related scenes and the weather fell apart at the very last moment. Instead of a sunny day, Vancouver got cold and snow. The script called for a "summer" day yet we were left with bad weather and no location. So we decided to change the script, move it indoors, and wing it. We had no time left to book a location, so we shot in a 1/4 of a bedroom and a 1/4 or a small living room. Ten hours in, with some creative lighting and magic, we got our shots. This is what the footage looks in-camera followed by the BTS snapshots of the setup. Designer: V Marysol Folkesson R

Here is an impromptu quick demonstration of just how much light matters in photography and film. I took these photos after installing the 3D printed GTI emblem on the car's grille. The 1st one is taken with a smartphone. The 2nd and 3rd photo were taken using a camera with the flash mounted on top of it. The only difference between the 2nd and 3rd image is the intensity, but more importantly, the direction and modification of the light. Cameras do matter. But the most important thing is controlling the light itself.
Cars and cameras... doesnt get much better than that.
One of the favorites...
No more master and slave terminology for Canon.
That movie moment in the forest when "there are no lights"...
" Carl Strmer (1874-1957) was a young student of mathematics when he purchased his first hidden camera. It was so small that the lens fit through the buttonhol...e in his vest with a cord that led down to his pocket, allowing him to secretly snap away. In his biography for the Fellows of the Royal Society, he revealed it was actually a secret crush that led him toward photography. When he was a young man at Oslo University he fell in love with a lady whom he did not know and with whom he was too bashful to become acquainted, writes his biographer. Wishing at least to have a picture of her, he decided that this was possible only by taking a photograph of her himself, without her knowing. And while the love affair came to nothing, Strmer continued capturing images of people on Karl Johansgate, the main street in Oslo, over the course of his studies from 1893 to 1897. The results are close to 500 secret images that show a wide range of people in a casual, relaxed state. Working like a paparazzo, Strmer would greet his subjects and then snap away as they approached. Friendly salutations and suspicious glances play out across his work, serving as some of the first examples of street photography. I had just posted about the importance of having data backups yesterday, and recently a different kind yet equally important backup came into play. Without any warning or explanation, the primary camera died during the recent shoot. It will have to go in for warranty work. The backup camera body was used and the production suffered no delays or consequences.
When you hire companies or freelancers for a project involving digital files, ask if they have a backup system. And a redundant backup system at that. A proper backup consists of a second copy on-site and a third copy off-site (either a cloud or hard drives stored in a secondary location). Your project depends on it.

Even just scrolling through the page without reading the article tells the story. And that is the point.
Very exciting news! Badzak Creative has been commissioned by HSBC Canada to produce a podcast show starting this year. Building upon the video project we produced in 2019, the topics and the guests will revolve around the world of people with disabilities. All the episodes will be available to general audiences.... This is as much about the social security blanket everyone needs, as it is about the personal triumph.
Its not easy. We deal with a lot of obstacles to pull off our 3 weeks in Guatemala every November. And we deal with them throughout the year. There are setbacks, unforeseen problems, politics, and so on. But its all for the well-being of the fellow human who was by sheer luck born somewhere else. Somewhere where basic healthcare is not as given as it is in Canada. This year alone our team of over 90 volunteers has come home leaving upwards of 1300 people with their lives improved. Some a little, some a lot. Yesterday was the International Volunteers Day and Global TV News at 6 covered Health for Humanitys work in this 2-minute story. Life is a whole different ballgame once you remove the superficial incentives of money. I am immensely proud of everyone pulling so hard to make all of this possible.
This morning Global TV crew interviewed several Health for Humanity volunteers. Look for their stories and Badzak Creative footage on Global TV News at 6 tonight.

Just finished very exciting and successful two days at HSBC HQ during the companys Ability Week. HSBC showcased Badzak Creatives five-piece documentary on employees with disabilities to their viewers around North America. This has quickly become one of my favorite projects and Im hoping to continue to advocate for the cause through more creative endeavors.

The project do...esnt have a name yet but it is a portrait series and the subjects are our Health for Humanity patients. Im hoping to organize a fundraising exhibition in 2020. Thank you so much, David and Damian for assisting with the project and putting up with me. Im hoping to do at least 4 mornings of these. See more

Editing timeline of Joker (from Avid editing software). The 5 "V" rows are video. Each little bit is a cut. The 12 "A" rows are audio. This is a very clean timeline. Things can get pretty messy if the editor is disorganized.
