COVID-19 infection rates are resurging across Canada and we need to be even more vigilant in protecting ourselves and each other. At Baffinland, the safety and wellbeing of our employees and contractors remains the highest priority while ensuring the continuity of our business during these evolving and challenging times. Baffinland continues to provide rapid detection of COVID-19 through our mobile PCR test lab and we are continually reviewing and updating other mitigating c...ontrols to reduce the spread of the virus. Experience with previous pandemics and the emergency responses clearly indicate that a collaborative approach is essential for success. When we all follow simple rules, like wearing a mask, maintaining physical distancing and cleaning our hands and shared surfaces frequently, we help to protect ourselves, our coworkers, our friends and our families. At Baffinland, preventive controls and increased Site Health and Safety Protocols are in place to further aid in reducing the transmission of COVID-19 and we’re fully prepared and equipped if circumstances arise. For a more complete summary of how we’re continuing to take health and safety seriously, read more here: https://bit.ly/34TTvHP

The first sunrise of the summer in Baffin Island captured by Helicopter Pilot, Jean Pascal Chapron, on August 7, 2019 at 2:00 am. Jean was flying back from Eqe Bay to Baffinland's Mary River Mine site. This is overlooking Angajujualuk Lake near Site. The sun only went under the horizon for two hours that night! #Arctic #Beauty
Our HR Recruiter Jean-Francois Fortier Doucet, walked one hour across Apex beach in Iqaluit to the mountain to go clam digging with his family. Clamming is a popular recreational activity in Iqaluit during August and September because the highest and lowest tides occur during these months - perfect for digging up clams along the shore! This photo was taken on the Labour Day long weekend of 2020.
To support families and early childhood education efforts, Baffinland has committed to working with Qikiqtani Inuit Assoc. and other government partners to build childcare facilities in Pond Inlet, Arctic Bay, Clyde River, Igloolik and Sanirajak. Baffinland will pay up to $3 million for each childcare facility ($15 million in total) and use Preferred Inuit-Owned Firms to the greatest extent possible. This commitment, contingent on Phase 2 approval, is one of many included in ...the Inuit Certainty Agreement, (ICA) which strengthens the relationship between the Company and the QIA as we seek to move the Mary River mine forward. Our Northern Affairs Manager, Joseph Tigullaraq (fondly known as Joe T!) shared these photos taken west of Sylvia Grinnell River in Iqaluit. The berries you see are crowberries and harvested for food in the North and the waterfall provides clean drinking water to all. As you know, these scenic shots are posted on Saturday but this weekend, we wanted to draw extra special attention to our Scenic Saturdays because anyone who submits a scenic photo at the Mine site or in Nunavut, where we operate, will be entered into a draw to win a grand prize! Just remember to private message us with the location of the photo, the approximate date, and your full name.
Baffinland takes marine wildlife monitoring seriously. Based on valuable input from Inuit, we have established speed limits for all shipping vessels, reduced noise disturbances and developed stringent ballast water testing to minimize any impacts to marine wildlife. We make all of our reports available on our website so the public knows all that we are doing to ensure our shipping operations are safe and environmentally responsible. Check out this double rainbow taken by Andrew Sheppard our Drill Core Technician. This was taken right outside of the Sailivik Camp at our Mary River Mine in Nunavut on July 9, 2020. Have any scenic photos of Nunavut you want us to feature? Please send to Baffinland (via private message) and include the date the photo was taken and any background information.
