As I’m sure you have heard by now, lockdown measures are increasing once again, encompassing all of Ontario beginning Saturday, December 26th. Please note this change still allows Regulated Health Professionals to continue their work. Already booked appointments are uninterrupted, and appointments are still available to be booked online or by phone during this time. Of course, these regulations can change quite quickly, so I will update you as soon as I hear from my governing body. Lockdown 2.0 for Windsor-Essex starts Monday, December 14. Fortunately, this time around you do not have to worry about not being able to get your massage therapy treatments in. Our business at @greatlakeschiro will continue as usual! All appointments booked remain as scheduled, however I do ask that you continue to respect our COVID-19 guidelines and pre-screen yourself prior to arriving for your appointment. If you do not feel well, please note that I will no longer be enforcing our cancellation policy, I encourage that you call anytime to cancel your appointment. *IMPORTANT* Massage Etiquette: Is it appropriate to call the person who administers my massage therapy treatments a masseuse? In short, absolutely not. ... It seems that in spite of the increasing recognition of massage therapy in the field of health and wellness, massage therapists remain undervalued. One way you can show your therapist some professional respect is to refer to them by the title they have earned: (Registered) Massage Therapist. The word masseuse makes us very uncomfortable. Although it used to be the standard term, and still technically defines ‘someone who administers massage professionally,’ it fell out of use IN THE 1980s when it became associated with sex work and promiscuity. Essentially, the term is outdated and brings with it a very negative connotation to a career we’ve worked incredibly hard to pursue. I am proud to share that I myself hold an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology & Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a diploma in Massage & Hydrotherapy AND the President’s Award for the highest grades in my class from Canadian College. I am a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario AND the Canadian Sports Massage Therapists Association.
