Three things that I DON’T incorporate into my morning routine: : Email : My phone... : Talking My morning routine is for ME and I am unapologetic about it. Anything showing up in my email is typically someone asking something of me and I do not work for anyone else but myself first thing in the morning. My phone is always full of social media notifications & texts from the night before (9:00pm-10:00pm seems to be a popular time to text and I’m winding down sans phone by 8:00pm). You can text me, you just won’t hear from me until 8/9am I am a S L O W mover first thing in the morning. You speak to me while I’m still trying to get my day started, you’re basically begging for an argument. When you take a break, do you still work or do you totally check out until you return? I’m a little bit of both and eventually would like to be able to totally check out. If you live in the world of I have to be working everyday or I’ll fall behind, I encourage you to give yourself the opportunity to rest and see what happens. The world won’t shut down, you won’t fall behind and, you’ll probably be more effective + efficient when you return. A sneak peek into a fun day with Team BAM and one of my faves, @ashleyjacksonstudio Saturday, we connected for the first time in over a year and had the opportunity to celebrate our wins amidst a tough year and get some quality time in! @kaileyacton and I also had the opportunity to doll up @rae_peat that works so hard for us on our admin side. These two ladies are the glue that has held me together over this past year.... Love on your people. Tell them how much you appreciate them any chance you get. Move mountains. Repeat.

Surviving Sephora. Ok. You’ve done your research on the product(s) you’re looking for and now you’re heading into the physical store. I’m talking in terms of physically being IN the store 50% because this is where 100% of the anxiety of shopping at Sephora comes from and 50% because I’d like to dream about walking into a makeup store again in my lifetime! Humour me. You walk to the front of the store and the lovely employee given greeter duties that day says, Hello! Would yo...u like a basket for shopping today? (Ok, only sometimes do they offer you a basket but I find I get offered a basket more often than not. Maybe they can just smell a rouge member from a mile away, I don’t know! I digress; You’re offered a basket. You say, Yes, thank you. And you CONFIDENTLY keep walking. You’ve done your research, you know what you’re after, your shoulders are back, you are smiling, no one smells the fear. You find the makeup stand you were looking for and the dreaded second question pops up from beside you. Another lovely employee looking to help This is very important. Are you listening? He/She asks, Can I help you find anything today? You’re panicking. Sweating too maybe. But, you have done your research and know what you’re looking for! You even wrote it on the special grocery list paper to ensure you went in confident and left only with what you went for! UNLESS YOU NEED DIRECTIONS TO YOUR NEXT MAKEUP STAND, your reply is this and this exactly, Thank you so much! I’m finding everything I came for! You smile (because kindness rules the world) and you silently tell yourself, Great job [Name] and you finish your shopping. Sephora is like Call of Duty for nervous makeup shoppers. Sephora got you overwhelmed? After curating my 2020 beauty round-up for you, I dove into the creation of a Sephora Handbook. I wanted to share one of the tips that you’ll find in the handbook: Figure out the type of product that you’re looking for (foundation/hair care products/fragrance/etc) and sit down and research. Know your skin type if you’re after a face product. Read the posted reviews on Sephora’s website and go to the brand’s official website to see their detailed ...description for the product you’re after. Really read the reviews, not just the first 5 that show up (I see you cutting corners and complaining later). Products aren’t one size fits all but, if you put some time and energy into your purchase BEFORE you make the commitment, you’re more likely to end up with a product you were after rather than the product that Everyone is raving about. You aren’t everyone and your needs are specific to you as an individual, spend some time investing in things to truly love having in your makeup bag! Save this post for future use if you like! Better yet, share with a friend(s) that get overwhelmed thinking about a visit to Sephora. We’ve all been there. Makeup is supposed to be fun, Sephora can be overwhelming. Let’s change that!

New year, new you? F that $hi+. We are currently in the post-Christmas + pre-New Year abyss where we are all questioning ourselves. Every move this last year, every decision we made, how to move into this year better. No? Just me?... Here’s what I learnt this past year: I don’t change unless my habits change. I’m better when I surround myself with like-minded individuals. When I look good, I do good. When I feel good, I do good. I’m nicer when I wake up earlier. I’m more productive when I fill my own cup first. I’m a human being, not a human doing. I set my own boundaries. (And I am solely responsible if I allow them to be crossed/broken.) This pandemic happened for me not, to me. (Read that again if you must but, I stand firm on that statement.) I can be copied but never replicated. The lie detector determined, THAT is a lie.... I had a crappy day yesterday. Start to finish, everything was a slug fest. After spilling the beans in my Insta-stories of the struggle bus that was my life in a nutshell yesterday, I had so many people show up rooting for me and loving all over me. I even had booze delivered on my doorstep to get through the rest of my home school day I’ve gifted you something in my Instagram stories for being such beautiful souls and as a thank you for being here. YOU are the reason I keep showing up and you will be the reason I continue to share this perfectly imperfect life of mine. Want to hear something crazy? I strongly dislike makeup primers. Eye primers, I L O V E! Specifically, @maccosmeticscanada paint pots ... But facial primers? Nope. No way. Waste of money. (Just my opinion) Pro tip: apply the skincare you already own (or see your esthetician for a regimen that’s suited for your skin type if you don’t already own something), wait 5 minutes before applying your makeup and you will notice your face makeup lasts somuchlonger Is this helpful? I remember the first time I got caught playing in my Mom’s makeup when I was a kid. I remember thinking, If I keep my eyes closed, they can’t see what I’ve done. I also remember the first time I put a pair of hoop earrings on and asked my Mom to put blue eyeliner on me. I was maybe five years old. I most definitely felt like a million bucks! While Nanc maybe didn’t formally sit me down and teach me about makeup, she always let me order Seventeen & Cosmo Magazine which is wh...ere I learnt about makeup in the beginning and she definitely bought me my first facial moisturizer when I was in grade seven. Just show up. I do this horribly. I’m a planner. I stress over the smallest of details. I’ve had a full plate these last few months and every time I try to move forward, ten things are added to my already overflowing workload. On top of that, I’m a perfectionist and I set the bar extremely high for myself. I’ve been this way for as long as I can remember. Full disclosure: Most days, it’s crippling. Kelsey asked me the other day what tool I used to curl her hair for this shoot. My answer? Flat iron for 90% of her hair. The other 10% was done with a wand for more movement at the crown. When I see something I know someone in my life will love, I purchase it and stash it away like a chipmunk. I’ll start in July sometimes! Let’s talk about dream clients for a second (because they deserve to be celebrated)... My dream client is all in on BAM. They love what they see, they don’t price shop and they may even change their wedding date if I’m unavailable on the date they initially inquire with. (You think that’s far-fetched but it’s happened. Multiple times.) Kailey was once my dream client. She didn’t have to change her wedding date to book in but, she said she would have if I wasn’t available ... NOW, Kailey is my right-hand artist! When I’m not available or we need a second artist on a job, this talented human steps up to the plate and works her magic It’s October 15... The day I get to tell everyone how great this beauty is and how much she is loved! Happy Birthday, Kailey!

This is my grandpa. Literally, one of my favourite people in my universe. He always had room in his armchair for a snuggle or two, always shared his Timmins Press crossword with me, and always had the warmest hug on our arrival at the airport each Summer.... This guy didn’t have the opportunity to serve his country but, he was ready and waiting and dare I say, disappointed that he didn’t get The Call Up. Over the course of my adult years visiting The Cottage, I would hear stories of poverty, working long days to help his parents earn money, and sneaking POWs through the mail system in potato sacks. Gramps often spoke of his trip to Normandy which he didn’t take until he was much older and you could literally feel the pride oozing from the story of his trip! My grandpa lost friends and family to war and was a dedicated legion member right up until the day he passed away. Every November 11 I would call and catch up with my grandpa and wish him a great day as he helped honour his fallen brothers in the Remembrance Day Service. It was his favourite day of the year. Today, I miss hearing, Oh hi there, Chickadee! But most of all, I stand proud for the generation before us who without question, went out to defend our country and our freedom with pride. We are who we are because of the people before us. We have what we have because of the people that stood up for us. We remember. @ Alberta

I burnt the house down and now it’s a team effort to rebuild this ship. I changed the booking process, the branding, and the website all in one fell swoop. Am I crazy? Probably. Have I cried? Definitely. Will it be amazing? YEP! I’m not the same person I was a year ago and neither is this business.... So naturally, I burnt the house down on BAM and we changed EVERYTHING. None of the wallpaper got to stay. She gone. New systems and strategies. New look. New website. Same luxury service. Same faces. Same high standards. Same goal. Over-serve the $hit out of you! We are all being held together by a thread over here and I can’t say I haven’t been wearing the same top knot for five days in a row That finish line is in sight. I'm an eternal realist. (see inside joke at the end) There is good and bad in every situation. I personally believe this is a good thing! Without contrast, how will you ever know where you land on a topic? I also believe that if you choose to only see the bad in every situation in life, you don't give yourself the opportunity to have any good moments because you don't even recognize them even if they're right under your nose!
