New world, new (tax) rules. As of July 1, 2021, foreign-based digital vendors, without physical presence in Canada (Netflix, Amazon for instance) will now be re...quired to pay GST/HST on their taxable sales to Canadian consumers. The proposed new rules would apply to cross-border digital products and services, goods supplied through fulfillment warehouses and short-term accommodation rentals using digital platforms. See more

For locations that must cease operations or limit their activities due to a public health order, the government has proposed to extend the Lockdown Support through the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy program until March 13, 2021.

In the Fall Economic Statement, the government proposes to introduce temporary support totaling up to $1,200 in 2021 for each child under the age of six for low and middle income families entitled to the Canada Child Benefit (CCB).

Over 1,000 Baker Tilly Canada Partners, Principals, Managers and staff came together to "eVOLVE". Principal, Susan Little, ran into 82 year-old and legally blind, Russell "Papa" Mackay this morning as he was walking up Carling Avenue. Seems Russell is on a mission. He has been walking over 100 kilometers from Beachburg to Ottawa to help raise funds for CHEO. His walk will end at CHEO on Thursday with a cheque presentation to support an incredible hospital that has helped countless children in and around our community. Supporting Canadians. The previously extended filing due dates for current individual, corporate, and trust income tax returns remain unchanged (Sept. 1, 2020). However, the CRA will not impose penalties provided that your return is filed by September 30, 2020.

Extensions for all. The CRA just announced it is extending the payment due date for current year individual, corporate and trust income tax returns (including installment payments) from September 1, 2020, to September 30, 2020. Penalties and interest will not be charged if payments are made by the extended deadline. This includes the late-filing penalty as long as the return is filed by September 30, 2020.
