Balanced Health Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine 28.12.2020

Balanced Health is opening for June! Bookings online are available and I will not be cancelling them, unless something unforeseen occurs..!? There will be less appointments available each week due to the changes I have put into place. Once you have booked your appointment you will be contacted with the new protocol, and all you will need to know to make your experience simple and comfortable! I appreciate all of your patience and continued support of my practice. It is hard ...to believe I am entering into my fourteenth year already. Thank you to all of you who keep Balanced Health alive and thriving! As much as I have missed seeing all of my clients on a weekly basis during this time away, I have made use of the time to get inspired and reflect upon some deeper aspects of my work as well as myself. The time to read some books that have been sitting on my shelf for years, watch a few seminars, and to just really let things settle in and shiftboth in AND out. Not to mention the beautiful facelift the office got, I cant wait for you all to see it! And I cant wait to see all of you! With Gratitude, Shilo

Since the release of the restart plan, a lot of people are wondering when Balanced Health (like many other businesses) will be open again. Acupuncturists are still waiting for protocols to be released from our governing bodies before being able to reopen. With this in mind, once that protocol is officially released, it will take some time for me to wrap my head around all of the new changes and expectations and to implement them. I want to assure everyone that whatever these... changes look like my top priority is everyones health as well as keeping the peaceful healing environment my office has always provided! In the meantime I am starting to make some amazing changes at the office! I have just started painting the hallway, bathroom and stairwell, and will be installing new baseboard and trim (with Bens help!) A fresh look seems perfectly timed! Anyone with a young family can appreciate when I say, this change has certainly resulted in less alone time! But in between schooling my two boys, Finn (9) and Julien (6) I’ve been trying to make time for some of the things I love! We have been spending time at our cabin, dreaming and living simply, the way our family has always functioned best! Preparing for our full time move out there for the summer soon. The boys have started dirt biking which has brought so much joy to our lives in such a short time! (now Ben and I want one too!!) family time at Bens job sites, hikes and walks, and living life as gracefully as we can through all the ups and downs. All I can say is I am so grateful for where I am at and very excited about where I am going! As always, I refuse to settle into the fear of the unknown for too long, keeping my focus on the exciting reality I choose to create for myself today and every day!! Thank you all for your continued patience, and please continue to book into June as many of you are, as I know one day very soon I won’t be me cancelling your appointments anymore!! With gratitude as always, Shilo

Acupuncture chose Me. 17 years ago I woke up (literally and figuratively) sat up in bed and said Im supposed to be an acupuncturist, what does that mean? within 3 weeks I had my first ever treatment, applied to school, had an interview and was accepted! My husband Ben often refers to me as a trigger puller as a bit of a joke. I know that in my life when my heart pulls me in a direction there is no stopping it, and I don’t question itI react quickly, I just pull that tr...igger And becoming a TCM practitioner was one I have never regretted. But it wasn’t until years into my practice that I realized that what I was here to offer was so much more than just acupuncture. Over the past few weeks I have really missed my beautiful office space and all the wonderful people I have the privilege to work with each week that invite me to be a witness to their growth and shifts along their journey. I am always honoured and grateful each time I get to hold that space for someone. Over the last few weeks, I have had clients contacting me with the request for a virtual appointment, and I have met with a few, and we have both really enjoyed it! So I am putting this out as an option on my online booking, A tele-health acupuncture session It will be a 30min virtual chat, I will be contacting you prior to the session with some questions to see what type of focus you want, acupressure, tai chi, personalized guided meditation, relaxation techniques, herbal consult etc.. I will then follow up our chat with an in depth email going over all of the information we covered in the session and tools you can work into your days/weeks to follow. I want this to be available to anyone who wants or needs this regardless of your financial situation at the moment, so I will be offering a sliding scale for the fee if requested. The receipt will say Acupuncture tele-health and we hope (but are not positive) that insurance companies will honour this, as many practitioners are starting to offer this service as a way of connecting with their clients and offering information and support during this time. Feel free to contact me by email or phone or book directly online at balancedhealth.co With a heart full of gratitude, Shilo

So grateful for knowing I can surrender, anything at anytime! I highly recommend it! Below is a link that I have shared in the past and have showed many parents how to do, it is a massage protocol to treat your Childs cough. Tuina massage is a TCM technique that uses pressure points and line rubbing to stimulate the body to heal. This is especially helpful for kids 12 and under! Robin Green has been the go to pediatric teacher in our field, I am grateful to have studied wi...th her since my kids were tiny! She is a gift and has put so much information together for parents to access easily! It is always important to treat that cough and assist it in resolving as quickly as possible for those little lungs to stay healthy and strong! Let me know if you have any questions! Email or call anytime!

I have spent much time over the last few years analyzing where I am distracted and noticing just how truly distracting our lives have become. I am aware how when we start to remove distractions, our minds want to replace them with new ones, because we have become comfortable here. Distractions keep us asleep, it keeps us in old patterns and pulls us away from looking inside. I absolutely understand we are adjusting to a major shift/change, and it takes time to settle into w...hat that means to each of us and our families. However, I do recommend being aware of not letting the drama of this pandemic become your new distraction. Be more aware of how often you are listening or reading the news, looking at new graphs/stats for the day, discussing the pandemic, speculating or worrying about it with friends and loved ones, or just letting it consume your mind. We NEED Virus free time!! :) And as you become more aware of the distractions you will also become more aware of what it does to your mood/energy. With more time, and less distractions, more unresolved emotions will start to surface. Honour them and take time to feel and love every one of them, no matter how uncomfortable they get, they want our attention! As promised, here are more details on the recommendations in the last post. Foods to Tonify the energy of the Lung yin. And as we nourish our lungs we also assist our body in processing and releasing grief and sadness. Take time each day to rest and breathe. Poached pears to nourish and moisten the Lungs. And here is a delicious recipe for poached pears, and kids love them! Cut pears in half, sprinkle with cinnamon and a few cinnamon sticks. Place in a dish with a bit of water and bake until they become soft and skin slides off easily. Eat 1/2 to 1 pear before bed Other foods to nourish the Lungs, choose one or two to add to your diet each day Foods that Benefit Lung Yin * include plenty of fluids, especially in the form of soups wheat, oats, rice, millet, barley adzuki beans, black beans, mung beans eggs, dairy in moderate amounts, yogurt tempeh, nuts, seeds, pine nuts, almonds tofu, pork, chicken, duck goose mackerel, sardines, oysters, mussels, clams zucchini, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, string beans, beets, kelp, spirulina apples, bananas, mulberries, mango, melons, coconut, peaches, apricots, pears olive oil, flaxseed oil, almond oil
