Making meal preparation a family affair is a great idea for so many reasons! As parents we are able to model a healthy relationship with food and show our kids that all foods fit Kids are more likely to try different foods if they are able to experience the texture, shape, smell etc. without the pressure of having to try it right away... Choosing ingredients for themselves helps to build food literacy and autonomy. They are free to choose the foods that feel good to them, in the amount they would like. This is super powerful!!!! Our kids really enjoy helping in the kitchen and their fav is when they get to make their own pizza. I usually involve them in planning the topping too, so they can have exactly what they want. A holiday twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie! This is hands down the best chocolate cookie recipe I have ever found. They are soft and chewy and do not flatten out when baked. I have been making them for years and I am often asked for the recipe. What’s the secret to a choco chip cookie that stays soft and moist? Instant vanilla pudding mix. Seriously. Thats it. ... I have made this batch extra festive by adding chopped walnuts and dried cranberries in with the dark chocolate chunks. I am also deliberately not adding a fun nutrition tip to this post because, well, it’s a cookie. We do not have to do a thing to earn anything we eat during the holidays and a cookie doesn’t have to be made healthier to be deemed a good food. Food does not have morality other then what we place on it. We all eat for reasons other than nutrition, and as we are nearing the holidays, I just wanted to put out a gentle reminder of this. I get asked about protein supplements quite a bit by the clients I see in my private practice. So what’s the T on protein supplements? Protein is an essential nutrient that is important for building muscle, a healthy immune system and production of hormones in the body. Because of this, it is important to get enough protein on a daily basis. If you are eating protein foods at your meals daily then you are likely meeting your needs, and I generally say that this is the best w...ay to get protein. Food sources of protein are not only less expensive than supplements but also contain other nutrients your body needs to function (not to mention food is sooo much more satisfying!). If you have increased protein needs or are having a hard time getting protein in at each meal, however, a protein supplement may help you meet your needs. The most common protein supplements on the market are milk based; whey protein or casein based, with whey being the most common of the two. Whey protein can be found as whey concentrates (contain protein as well as some fat and carbohydrates) and whey isolates (contains only protein). There are also vegan sources of protein in supplement form such as soy, rice or pea protein.
