As we have some gentle fog/showers/moisture, something interesting you may not have known.
October is a magical month, and an ideal time to plant shrubs, trees, and perennials. This is also our 25th season open. So we're having a sale! 25 % off Pink Nishiki willow, Dwarf Alberta spruce, Dwarf burning bush, All Japanese Maples, All Ornamental grasses and all Flowering dogwoods!
Because with Teddy-the-storm coming to call, we might need a chuckle this morning.
The good news is, you can still plant perennials, shrubs, trees and grasses at this time of year. And some of us are still doing just that. The better news is, although sometimes we dread fall garden cleanup chores, they don't have to be done all at once--as this writer notes, even fifteen minutes a day is better than the huge weekend marathon that leaves us aching and grumpy. https://www.shiftingroots.com/how-to-clean-up-your-garden-/
Something we've been honoured to be involved in. Check it out in Dartmouth!
Looking for fresh garlic...we have some!
Something interesting about creating a pollinator banquet: https://naturesdepths.com/a-banquet-for-butterflies-and-bu/
A public service announcement from the pollinators: Please don't "bee" hating on goldenrod if you have allergies. Goldenrod pollen is not airborne as it's too heavy to float, but it's very important to bumblebees and other pollinators. What's probably affecting you (as it does me) is the evil ragweed, an invasive wild plant that produces gazillions of pollen grains. So pull out all the ragweed you want but leave the goldenrod, at least in the wild spaces around your garden.
Some of what's blooming in late summer--Russian sage, anemones and Blue Fortune agastache! Plus of course, grasses galore--come check us out, Wed-Sun 9-5.
A midweek giggle for everyone. You always have room for more plants. Come see us and let us help you find more perfect darlings.
Although this is a map of the US, it explains growing zones nicely. We in NS are mostly zone 4-6, depending on where in the province you live--the Valley is mostly zone 5, parts of the south shore zone 6 and parts of Cape Breton 4. We can grow a LOT of perennials, for sure!
Lots blooming here at the nursery--shrubs, perennials, grasses--and pollinators galore! Open Wed-Sun, 9-5.
A little 'did you know' information on native bees and their ways.
It all starts with just one plant... :-) Come visit and check out OUR plants!
Have you gotten into conifers yet? Or grasses? These plants bring so much colour and texture to the garden. And if you have a small space, there are dwarf conifers and short grasses you can work with, too! Come visit for your best demonstration, and find your new plants today. :-)
Psssst! Guess what? Today is someone's birthday, and he has a daylily named after him (thanks to Allan C Banks at HarbourBreeze.) Let's all wish Rob a happy birthday, and many many more, and thanks to him for running such a great nursery for 25 years!
