Great question from a community member: What exactly does ‘commercial/light industrial’ mean? What kind of businesses would set up at Bamberton if this rezoning application goes through?
There’s a public hearing tomorrow night to hear what people think about changing some of Bamberton’s zoning. We’d like to have some of the forestry zoning changed to commercial/light-industrial. We’d also like to make 300 acres at the South into a park. If you live in the region and want to weigh-in, it's at 7pm at Brentwood college. Your voice makes a difference!
Have you visited the Kinsol Trestle in Shawnigan yet? One of Bamberton’s biggest business tenants, MacDonald & Lawrence Timber Framing, was actually the main builder in charge of the restoration. Some amazing video and pics of their work here:
Did you know?: The 632-hectare Bamberton lands are currently zoned for heavy industrial and forestry (logging) purposes. This is the original zoning of the property (since its cement factory days).
Great news! The Malahat First Nation had their elections for Chief and Council last week and the community chose to re-elect Chief Michael Harry and Councillors Russell Harry and Dean Harry. Congratulations!
