The Bamfield Volunteer Fire Department/First Responder teams have calendars for sale, in an effort to raise some money after a year where other fundraisers were not possible! Calendars are $20, and can be found at the Market, Breakers Marine, the Mercantile and Marine, and Post Office. They can be shipped if you're willing to pay for shipping, or if you're currently not in Bamfield but will be in the new year, you can pay in advance and have a calendar set aside with your name on it!

The Bamfield Volunteer Fire department is sad to report that we will not be hosting our intertidal golf tournament, nor salmon derby this year over concerns related to COVID-19. To help protect our community, we will put a pause on these events and come back to them next year. Thank you all for your support and understanding. Wishing you all safe and healthy times!

Hi everyone! - Please read to the end Well, yard burning season is now upon us (technically starts after the 15th ) Here's our burning bylaw: http://www.acrd.bc.ca//bylaw_r1025_bamfield_backyard_burni... Some of the highlights and things to keep in mind for a safe time: 1. Please have tools and a water source nearby - like shovels and a garden hose - just buckets of water won't cut it. 2. Never leave your fire unattended. 3. Burning needs to take place from dawn to dusk - no burning overnight! And try to get it done in one day. 4. Do not burn garbage or noxious materials 5. Only burn materials from your property! 6. Do not smoke out your neighbours! If I get complaints, I will ask you to stop burning. 7. Your yard fire cannot be larger than 2x2 meters, otherwise you need a permit from me. Anything else, please refer to the bylaw. Thanks, Phil, BVFD Fire chief

Hey everyone! Happy to report the BVFD is lifting the campfire ban for our area. This is for campfires only, though. Please, no yard burning until much later and more moisture - according to our bylaw, you should be waiting until mid October for yard burns. Check out the ACRD website for our burning bylaw: http://www.acrd.bc.ca/bamfield... I would like to thank you for your cooperation and diligence in fire prevention during this very dry and hot few months.

Hi there! I appreciate the diligence that you community members have been showing with respect to the fire ban. I've been getting the odd message telling me that people are still having little fires, though. Please, if you see such a thing, yes, contact me or another member of the BVFD, but also take the initiative to let those people know about the ban. We need to work together to protect our properties and homes. BVFD members can't be everywhere, so for the sake of our comm...unity not burning down, and out of self-preservation, please let your neighbours with fires know that it's too dry and the ban is still on. Thank you all! Phil fyi: CSA approved propane fire rings are still allowed. If you see an illegal fire in our local national park, you can report it to: 1-877-852-3100. To report a wildfire or irresponsible behaviour everywhere else call 1 800 663-5555 or *5555 from a cell phone.
