Welcome to 2021! Just a friendly public announcement. BMAAAC will be making a few changes. The first change is that Lisa and Tresa will no longer be on the BMAAAC board. They have done a great job helping to get BMAAAC off the ground! Lisa has invested some of her own money into BMAAAC, too. Thank you Lisa and Teresa! So, there are 2 seats available. (PM me if you are interested in being on the BMAAAC board.) Second, we will be adding an "Elders Advisory Group" to help guide ...BMAAAC. Lastly, there are 2 workshops coming up later this month. The first workshop is on "Band Council Fiduciary Duty: What is it and What happens when it's Breached?" (Watson Goepel LLP - a Vancouver law firm - to speak on this topic). The second workshop is on "Band Trust Money" (Borden Ladner Gervais - a national law firm - to speak on this topic). The "Band Trust Money" workshop is in response to those bands that receive compensation money, or will soon receive compensation money, such as "cows & plows" or "ammo & twine". Problems arise when chief and council do things contrary to what was voted on by the membership, or else use part of the compensation money to fund, for example, a "band business" that's run by the chief. This time I will post a zoom link on our BMAAAC FB group, as well as on my FB wall so people can simply log into the workshop. Of course, there will be door prizes at the workshops: Pendleton blanket. See more
