Ice Cream Scoops Skip Counting How do you get your child to practise their math? Here’s one way to do it: creating a fun context around the work. Like this acti...vity, I invited Zachary to skip count by 2s, 3s and 5s by stacking ‘ice cream scoops’. It’s so cute, Zachary doesn’t even feel that he is working on his multiplication facts. . . . I set up this activity with contact paper on my door. This has a couple of advantages: 1) the kid gets to work on a vertical surface, 2) adds novelty since we don’t use contact paper or work on a vertical surface everyday, 3) the sticky wall adds sensory experience and 4) the contact paper allows us to repeat the activity (with other questions) several more times until it’s no longer sticky. . .
