We are challenging all our customers to collect and donate their bottle caps. Seaside Reclaimed, one of our vendors is collecting bottle caps for their apparel ...line. Why plastic bottle caps? Plastic bottle caps are a very common plastic source and, unfortunately, have a high chance of ending up in landfills. Many recycling centres aren’t able to process them and even when they do enter the recycling system, they can be overlooked further down the chain. #farmandmarket #fall #explorenl #staycation #SeasideReclaimed #RecycleOnTheRock #GreenerNL #ethicalclothing #greenfashion

Today's Reilly Fitzgerald Newfoundland art share is ... Colossal Two (2019) 24" X 18" acrylic on canvas by Reilly Fitzgerald. Five years before painting Colo...ssal Two and inspired by David Blackwood's "Fire Down on the Labrador," I painted "Colossal" (2014). This, in turn, inspired me to create several other pieces of art based on the same concept of an iceberg seen both above and below the water’s surface, surrounded by nature’s creatures, including whales, fish, birds, and fishermen in a boat. These were large 3D bas-relief pieces, partly composed of carved wooden pieces, made for public display in places such as the Clarenville Events Centre, and children’s hospitals. Then I became inspired to create a sequel to Colossal created on the more traditional medium of stretched canvas. Colossal Two contains all the elements of "Colossal," painted in my bold, colourful expressionistic style, however, as the name suggests, I included two of each of the main elements: two icebergs, two whales, and two people in the boat. Just as the painting is created as the offspring of my initial painting, the pairs in the painting are meant to express the bonds of parent and child in the whales and people, exploring the Atlantic ocean from different perspectives, one pair below (mother & baby whales), one pair above (father & child in boat) and the icebergs, which represent breaking away to explore one's own path. I hope all who see Colossal Two feel the joy I meant to express through its playful imagery and colour. See more
