These wines may not need an introduction as they are part of the famed Torres family of wines The Grans Muralles property dates back to the 15th century and is situated at the foot of the Cistercian monastery in Conca de Barberà. This region shares the same black slate, or llicorella soils as Priorat, and Torres is working only with indigenous grapes from the Grans Muralles estate. Vinification for the Grans Muralles is always the same, with the wines spending 18 months in ...new French oak before bottling. These terroir driven wines are influenced by modern winemaking techniques and can easily be aged for up to two decades. Here we have two vintages, 2010 and 2015, that show the potential of these wines after some years of aging. The 2010 was a cooler year which allowed for balanced ripening and enticing aromatics. 2015 was much warmer, giving muscle and potency to the Garnacha dominant blend. The 2015 also provides a nice counterpoint to the finesse of 2010, and together, they demonstrate the importance of this unique Catalonian terroir See more
