Wednesday, March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day! ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF are encouraged to wear green this Wednesday!
This is a short week for students. There is NO school this Friday, March 19th. Friday is a Professional Learning Day for all staff and Report Card preparation. That being said, there is no hot lunch available this week.
Important Request Could you please drop off and pick up your child down at the loop and be very careful and conscientious of other drivers. We do request that parents/guardians do not pull up to the front of the school. We are getting our sign on the tree changed to state this! We are asking that everyone be very careful outside. It is icy and wet. Plus, we have more and more classes taking place outside during instructional time and the students are always outside during lunch. Thank you, we appreciate your cooperation.
Shout Outs! 1. A big SHOUT OUT to the following students for being winners of the West Branch Public Library Scary Story Writing Contest: Grade 6 - Jamielyn Williams in 6 Blanchard... Grade 7 - Sophie Corey in 7 Carleton Grade 8 - Abigail Merzetti in 8 McShane Great job and all recipients won a prize from the library. 2. A second "SHOUT OUT" to M. MacDonald for winning the most Inspiring Teacher award for the month of November and Mrs. Kennedy won the most Caring Teacher for this month. Mrs. Fawcett won the most "Resilient EA" award for the month of November. Congratulations to these three staff members!
Friendly Reminder As we complete the last week of November and head into December, the weather is getting colder. We take every opportunity to have the students learning while outside; therefore, please ensure your child has warm outdoor clothing on when he/she leaves the house in the morning. We also suggest that students dress in layers, since while inside the building, students are NOT to wear their outdoor clothing. Some students do get cold and it is advisable to have a hoodie or sweater to put on while in class.

As a school in ASD-S, we recognize and remember the importance of food allergies and safety all year long. That being said, we are a nut free environment. Food allergies are one of the leading causes of potentially life-threatening anaphylactic reactions, especially among young people. In Canada approximately 4% of children have food allergies, with the most common being peanuts. Eggs, milk, tree nuts, wheat, soy, sesame seeds, and seafood are also very common. Since there i...s no way of predicting how severe an allergic reaction may be and there is no known cure for food allergies, the best way to keep children and anyone safe is by avoiding the food that causes the reaction. Therefore, we are asking that everyone be very diligent when packing lunches and bringing any food into the school. At Barnhill, we are taking the initiative of educating every one of our 15 homerooms by having an interactive presentation during Personal Wellness class. We have contacted the Sweet Caroline Foundation for resources to help make our school environment safer for those living with allergies. We want those who are allergy free to become more aware of what they can do to support the environment. We certainly appreciate your cooperation with making our school safe for all our students and staff.
If you have a few minutes, please check out our Remembrance Day assembly video. This video was shown to all 15 homerooms Tuesday morning. https://www.youtube.com/playlist
