Statement from Chief Peter Sloly: Vaccination Policy The safety of the people of Ottawa is our number one priority. As Chief, my job is to ensure we have the resources needed to respond immediately and effectively to any emergency and keep the public safe. In a pandemic, that also means working closely with Ottawa Public Health towards the goal of 100 percent vaccination for all our members, as announced earlier this month. Mandatory Vaccination... It is with those guiding principles in mind that I am announcing the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) will be instituting a mandatory vaccination policy for all members effective January 31, 2022. Today, almost 84% percent of OPS members are fully vaccinated. All employees will have until January 31, 2022, to complete their two-dose vaccination (or receive a formal exemption in line with Ottawa Public Health guidelines). The OPS has always been working to achieve 100 percent vaccination for all our members. That is what this policy is about providing a safe, effective and responsive police service for the people of Ottawa. Testing Members who have not been vaccinated will be required to be tested every 72 hours. We have received a limited supply of tests at no cost to the taxpayer. After those tests run out, unvaccinated employees will be required to pay for their own tests. We are currently finalizing these adjustments to our policy. I would like to thank members of the OPS who have received their vaccination and urge our remaining eligible members to do the same. Together, we can continue to keep our members and the people of Ottawa safe.

City lifts capacity limits for its drop-in recreation and cultural programs Starting today, the City is increasing capacity limits for its recreation and cultural drop-in activities to reflect the recently announced easing of Provincial regulations. This will give residents more opportunities to get out for a swim, skate, participate in a sporting activity, exercise in a cardio and weight room, and visit a museum or cultural centre. Residents should note that capacity for mos...t activities will return to pre-pandemic levels, subject to staff availability. The current reservation system will remain in place to provide clients with the opportunity to secure a spot at a preferred time and to make the check-in process faster and easier. Those without a reservation will be admitted when capacity limits allow and will be required to provide their contact tracing information during the onsite registration and screening. While the capacity limits have been eased, other COVID-safety protocols remain in place for a safe and enjoyable environment: - Proof of full vaccination and identification paper or digital certification for adults 18 and over - Proof of full vaccination and identification for youth aged 12 to 17, who are using fitness rooms or participating in drop-in activities - Masks are still required at recreational facilities when not taking part in a physical activity Full fire-code capacity levels will also be permitted for hall, pool and arena rentals, with the exception of events with dancing which remain at 25 per cent capacity. The City is pleased to welcome all residents back as we approach late fall and winter activities. Now, you and your family can stay active for your physical and mental health. Given the heavy rain that our City may see, we are asking any residents who are able to please clear their local catch basin of any snow or debris. Anything we can do to keep the water flowing off the road will help prevent water pooling, and will mean less opportunities for the water to freeze when temperatures drop. In some communities, inlet control devices have been installed to control the water entering into our stormwater system. Residents may see water draining, like that from a bathtub, somewhat more slowly. In these areas, it is not necessary to create a service request unless the water is still pooling 24 hours after the last raindrop has fallen.

Fee increases for Ottawa Police services, effective January 1st The Ottawa Police Services Board (OPSB) approved a cost-recovery fee structure model for all police information-related services. Effective January 1, 2021, it will cost $66 to obtain a criminal records check, criminal records and judicial matters check, and a vulnerable sector check. Adoption application fees will cost $108, and volunteer checks will increase slightly to $20.40.... Please note that while Ottawa remains under Orange or higher COVID-19 levels, as determined by the province, volunteer fees will be waived. Rates for police reports have also risen slightly, with motor vehicle reports costing $200.88, collision reconstruction reports $2,245, general occurrence reports $58, fingerprinting $50, and a pardon application $66, not including HST. FOI requests will remain $5 per request. To learn more about all the rates associated with different reports, please visit the Police Report web page on our website. Additionally, Paid Duties have increased incrementally, with Tier 1 constable hourly rates set at $89.66 (or $100.87/hr for Tier 2), sergeant Tier 1 hourly rates at $101.69 (or $114.39/hr for Tier 2), and staff sergeant Tier 1 hourly rates at $111.18 (or $125.05/hr for Tier 2). Hourly rates for canine, police vehicles, boats or ATVs remain the same as 2020. This new fee structure aligns with budget estimates that were presented to the Ottawa Police Services Board and approved in November and reflects a cost-recovery increase only. https://www.ottawapolice.ca//about-us/Fees-and-Payment-Met

Message from Transportation Service Department: As you may be aware, this year, OC Transpo, in partnership with MADD Ottawa and Safer Roads Ottawa, will once again be offering no-charge service on New Year’s Eve after 8 pm. This annual partnership is to help prevent residents from drinking and driving, and it’s been a proven success for many years. This decision to offer no-charge service on New Year’s Eve was made in consultation with Ottawa Public Health (OPH). The risks... associated with impaired driving remain prevalent, and by offering no-charge transit with mandatory masks and other safety precautions we can help reduce impaired driving while maintaining a safer transit system. Public Health is supportive of this decision and worked with us on messaging to the public. We also encourage everyone to follow all Ottawa Public Health guidelines regarding gatherings this holiday season: Keep the number of people you interact with small: those in your household plus essential supports. For social gatherings, this can include limiting gatherings to those who live in your household and those providing essential support services such as a caregiver. If you live alone (single parent, student, etc.), one or two contacts outside your home can be important social supports to draw on. It is our priority to ensure that a safe and practical choice exists for those travelling on New Year’s Eve.

Ottawa to purchase new electric buses Message from the Government of Canada (Infrastructure Canada): The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of investing in affordable and sustainable public transit that helps Canadians and their families travel to and from their destinations safely and efficiently.... Investing in cleaner transit options not only helps us meet our climate targets, it ensures cleaner air and a brighter future for our children and grandchildren. That’s why the Government of Canada is pleased to announce that, thanks to funding provided through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, the City of Ottawa is in a position to purchase more buses, including battery-electric buses. In total, the City of Ottawa is investing $9.3 million, including the purchase of four long-range 40-foot battery-electric buses, along with the necessary supporting infrastructure. Message from Director of Roads and Parking Services: It’s going to be a messy day out there. We are expecting light flurries to start at anytime. The light flurries will continue until early afternoon when it will mix with rain or freezing rain. By late afternoon, and with temperatures rising, we anticipate the freezing rain will switch to rain. The rain will continue through to Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will be hovering around zero today and any fluctuation could ch...ange the type of precipitation our community will receive. Our teams are ready to respond! Our Supervisors are out and actively monitoring conditions in all parts of the City. Staff are standing by and will be called in to respond as needed. When staff are deployed, they will begin clearing and treating main roads and arterials, sidewalks and the winter cycling network. If we get the anticipated freezing rain, salt will be used to promote the melting of ice and to prevent ice from sticking to the roads. Residents are asked to exercise caution this afternoon and to avoid travel where possible. If you must go out, please give our vehicles three car lengths of space to operate. They are on the road to keep you safe and will be moving slowly to do their work. Also, with the anticipated rainfall coming, residents who can are reminded to keep catch basins clear to allow water and melting snow to flow off the road. This will help keep roads safe as temperatures drop later this weekend.
