It is difficult to think of outdoor tennis at the moment since there is still snow on the ground. However, it is never too early for thinking of springtime and playing the sport we all love to play. Although we do not know what programs the Barrhaven Tennis Club will be able to offer in 2021 because of the pandemic, we are confident that the courts will be available to members for general play. The Club would therefore like to offer you something to battle the winter blue...s. Starting February 8th, the Barrhaven Tennis Club will be selling online tennis memberships for the 2021 season at 2019 rates. The early bird discount will continue until April 30. Effective May 1, the Club will be increasing its membership rates between 10-15% so that we can start to plan the gradual resurfacing of our courts over the next two years. In mid-June I had cancelled this year's PLMT BBQ, hoping that we could still in some fashion organize the tournament portion of this event. Unfortunately after looking at the ongoing COVID-19 cases in the area along with my own personal obligations at this time, I regret to inform everyone that I have decided to cancel this year's PLMT. This was one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in quite sometime. This tournament and this event is like a labour of love to... me. I love absolutely every aspect of this tournament. As soon as the tournament draw is released, I look forward to not only the potential later round matchups, but the 1st and 2nd round matches that I hope will steal the show. I remember back in 2018, one of the opening round matchups was between Antoine Bujold-Roux and Yolito Mendoza. The match went three sets and after it, all I could think was: "Damn what a start! Let's see if we can top that.". A big thank you to all of the sponsors who I have reached out and have confirmed that they will return for next year. It makes next year's planning easier to know that some of the organizing will be taken care of. I have also notified all of the players who have signed up for this year that their spots are reserved for 2021. Once I get confirmation from the players in early January, I suspect I'll have a new record to announce for a sold out draw. ;) I will continue to post the player profile of the weeks as I still have several players from the tournament who have yet to receive a mention. I wish you all a healthy and safe remainder of 2020. As always, I'll be planning for this tournament in early 2021 and will be looking for new ideas so that this tournament comes back with a bang. We would like to give you an update on the opening of the Barrhaven Tennis Club. BTC staff put up the nets this morning. We will install the wind screens at a later time when we can have more of you to help out. However, the Club remains closed. We have yet to receive the green light from the city to open up. All clubs are having a conference call with the city and the National Capital Tennis Association on Tuesday evening.... Because we are still operating under some uncertainty with respect to the restrictions under which we will be operating, the club will definitely not open for business on Tuesday, May 19. We need to make sure we make the proper arrangements before we open so that you can play in a safe environment. The silver lining and we need to find the silver lining in the current environment - is that we will open long before we thought we would, which was July 1. For those who have not registered to date, we would suggest you do not do so for the moment. The club has yet to decide what will be its membership fees for 2020. However, they will be discounted from our regular fees. For those who have already registered, we will make arrangements for you to get reimbursed once we have decided on the fees. Good evening, As you may have heard, the Ontario government announced today that tennis clubs can begin to open up next week. However, we are still waiting for detailed guidelines from the city. In the meantime, a small staff from the BTC Executive as per direction from the City, will begin to get the Club ready by putting up some nets this weekend. However, the Club will remain closed. ... We will let you know when the courts are available for play as soon as we can. It will be no earlier than May 19, and possibly later. It will depend when we receive the guidelines from the City. Good morning, Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Ottawa has directed that all recreation and cultural facilities remain closed until further notice. This includes the Barrhavern Tennis Club and all other City of Ottawa membership tennis club facilities and courts. ... The safety of our members continues to be of paramount concern to us at the Barrhaven Tennis Club. We will therefore begin to put up some nets and open up our courts for play only once the Ottawa Public Health advises us that it is safe to do so.
