Vaccines are coming and it looks like we may be able to get back to our favourite hobby, singing, sometime in the early fall 2021. We can't wait, and are looking at several new pieces of music in order to prepare for anticipated live performances in the Barrie area later this year! Purchasing music is expensive, so being able to count on financial support from Delta Bingo and Gaming on a regular basis is critical to our success. I cannot say I knew Murray, but certainly saw his name in Barrie Chapter archives - for example, he and his wife Marg, sang in a mixed quartet along with Roy Keys and Ray Atkinson, on a Barrie show in 1962!

A group of the Chordsmen got together last night over Zoom to wish each other a Merry Christmas. Even Santa had a chance to log in and say hello! Best wishes to everyone on a safe and happy Christmas. We look forward to getting together again in 2021!

We’re looking forward to getting back to rehearsals and performances. Not being able to sing due to Covid19 has been very difficult for everyone in our chorus. We love to perform, but regretfully our 2020 fundraising show in September has been cancelled. With the loss of revenue from our show we are extremely grateful to the ongoing funding made available to groups like ours through Delta Bingo and Gaming. Several of our members volunteer at Delta Bingo and Gaming in downtow...n Barrie, and in return our group receives a share in the profits. These funds have been instrumental in allowing us to bring our special style of a Capella music to the people of Simcoe County through performances at local retirement centers, RVH, churches and more. Money received is used in many ways, such as purchasing new music, coaching and uniforms to improve our performances. We have also used them to support local charities and music events, such as the Barrie Music festival and the Orillia Kiwanis Music Festival and to run educational vocal workshops for local elementary and high school students. A good portion of the funds have also gone to the charity which we have supported for over 40 years, Harmonize for Speech. Harmonize for speech provides funds for numerous speech-related projects, equipment at hospitals, clinics and treatment centres throughout Ontario and scholarships for students. Georgian college received $50,000 for the Speech, Hearing and language clinic at their new Health and Wellness Centre in Barrie in 2011-12, and Harmonize for Speech provides ongoing financial support for students in the Communicative Disorders Assistant Program.
