Today’s #motivationmonday

Barrie Literacy Council 04.11.2020

Do you wonder if the way you feel this year has been felt by anyone else? We did. So, our November newsletter is made up of stories from our community of students, volunteers and staff who shared what life has been like for them. Positive opportunities, devastating loss, hope for the future. Read it here: ... https://bit.ly/Nov2020Newsbeat When people share, everyone feels better and more connections are made. And this year, connecting is what we have been missing. Thank you to our Barrie Literacy Council community for sharing. Thank you also to Delta Bingo and Gaming for continuing to support charities such as ours even though their capacity has been limited by the pandemic. Because of their commitment to charities, we are able to maintain connections to all of you, too. https://bit.ly/DeltaBingoGaming

Barrie Literacy Council is grateful for the continuing support received from https://www.facebook.com/deltabingoandgamingbarrie/ during this continuing pandemic challenge. As a small charity, we have, like so many others, had to cancel fundraisers. Fortunately, with the help of Delta Bingo and Gaming, and their dedicated patrons, we have been able to carry on some classes for adults. Pictured here are Paul Mather, Digital Literacy Instructor and one of his students, Linda. After 8 weeks of instruction, separated by 6 feet, and surrounded by plexi, this 15 second photo challenge was an awesome end!

COVID: Heightened awareness. Learning: Never stop. Challenge: Accepted. The Soft Skills Solutions class started in March, and paused in March. It took awhile to get students and instructor schedules to sync, but they persevered and finished their class last month. On-line was an option, but in-person was a unanimous decision. Congrats to successful students who knew their optimal learning style, and thank you to our intrepid volunteer instructor!... Pictured here: Instructor Wayne, student JP, and smile cookies were a happy co-incidence! See more

We are open! Between the time we closed on site service, and welcomed our staff back last week, three seasons have occurred. Hard to imagine! Monday, Independent study started. Tuesday, math small group. In a couple weeks, tutors will start meeting with students. Next month, tutor recovery will start with rescheduling Tutor Training sessions and hosting Information Sessionsand like everything else, this will entail developing and offering this information/training on line a...nd probably in person. We cannot forget the incredible value our volunteers bring to our community. Our Trainers recognize that just like our students, not everyone does on-line. This pivot to accommodate the pandemic effect on ... ‘normal’... is not easy. We completely respect the choices our volunteers make as to if, and when, they return. We hold the same respect for our students. Our students. Our potential new students. While it seems so much has changed for us, our students made clear what has not changed: they are here because this place is their learning style and this place is their community. Welcome back!
