Having trouble breathing, hitting the higher notes and feel like it is a lot of work when singing? This could be for different reasons but one main reason could be tension. This ‘release of tension’ is so crucial for singers. Once a singer is tense in their body, it shows through their sound as well. When a singer is tense, they will usually sound pingy, tight, and thin and it becomes double the amount of work for them when in the process of singing. The most common place fo...r a singer to feel tension physically is in their neck. Other places tension could be found in the body for singers are on their shoulders, jaw, arms, and stomach. When a singer can release the physical knots , they have more room to breathe through their body, will ease their way to the higher notes and sing freely. Some things I have done to release tension: Massage Breathing exercises: yoga breath, inhale through nose, inhale through the back, and straw breathing Many of us carry a lot of rigidity physically on our bodies on a daily basis.
