Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome our next lifeguard of the week... Mercedes Krasznai! Mercedes is one of our Supervisors this year. She is also very experienced as she had became a lifeguard when she was 16. From here, she worked at both the Brooks and Bassano pools! Our staff love working with her because she always brings yummy Traditional Ukrainian food- how delicious!... Lets move onto her education Fun fact about Mercedes- she went to Bassano for school until she switched to the Brooks Composite High School; and here she became a Brooks Composite graduate! Mercedes graduated from MacEwan University in 2018, where she studied to become a medical office assistant/ unit clerk. Her future plans are to work as much as she can so she can ignite the travel bug within her and travel as much as possible!! Now lets see what her favourite things are: Favourite Colour- Blue Favourite Food: Spaghetti Favourite Sport- Dance Favourite Hobby- Travelling Favourite Movie- Safe Haven Fav Water Activity- Just Swimming Annnddd... Why did she want to become a lifeguard?- I wanted to become a lifeguard to have transferable skills for my future career, and also get a nice tan! We are back again this week with a new featured guard, Olivia Poole! This is Olivia’s third year guarding at Bassano and she is currently one of our Senior Guards/Assistant-Manager! For the past two years she has worked during the winters at the Brooks indoor pool. This upcoming Fall, Olivia will be going to the University of Lethbridge to obtain a double degree in Political Science and Education! She hopes to one day get a job as a teacher or find a job somewhere in politics.... Both of these job opportunities will allow her to be involved in her community and strive for the collective wellbeing of those around her. This is not surprising as she enjoys volunteering- which can be seen through her volunteer work at the Brooks Junior High School in their humanity classes- as well as her active involvement around the Brooks Composite High School, in sports teams/clubs and coordinating various school wide events. Congratulations! Now lets learn some more about our lifeguard of the week! Pool Olympics on July 31st will take place DURING public swim. Public swim is still from 1-7pm.

This week our featured guard is... drum roll, please.... Jessie Seo!! This is Jessie’s second year lifeguarding and she is one of our Junior Lifeguards this year. This is a perfect job for her as she enjoys being involved in our community in many ways. As many of you may know, Jessie was one of the two Presidents for the Bassano High School’s Student Representative Council; she played volleyball throughout her schooling; she is involved in the Family and Community Support Ser...vices; and she is very passionate about her academics! This upcoming Fall, Jessie will be going to the University of Calgary to study biological sciences in order to become a Doctor; and specifically, a paediatric or oncology surgeon. Along with this, Jessie was also selected as a student to participate in the U of C’s Arts and Sciences Honours Academy- where she has the opportunity to study abroad for 3-12 months. Wow! Congratulations, Jessie! Lets learn more about our lifeguard of the week!
