It is that time of year again when kids are approaching their last month of high school. They, at 18, are forced to try and figure out what they want to be for the rest of their life. But we do such a poor job as adults to show kids their options. There are so many professions out there that kids don't know about. We need to start talking to kids (ideally when they are in the early years of high school) and get them to think about what they love doing. When do they feel... most excited or motivated when they are in class. Do they love group work? Or presentations? Do they love math? What excites them? This is the beginning of the journey to start researching what options should they explore. Make it an adventure! See how many jobs have that enjoyment in the job description. See what weird and wonderful jobs are out there. Have some fun. University is not for everyone but every person can and should choose their work life. If they love to drive, look at all the things they can drive, the places they can drive, the jobs they can have driving! You get the idea. Make it less scary and more about a journey. Planning a trip is often as much fun as taking the trip! Let's get kids planning their trip into adulthood.
