Bernard Thériault, the first historian of the Acadian Historical Village, is an influential voice in heritage circles. He is a member of the Board of Historic Sites and Monuments of Canada. Monday, February 17 Family Day 2:00-3:00 pm Matinée 7:00-8:00 pm Evening Performance Here Come the Settlers, premiére of a new play by Kevin Mann. Nineteenth-century Celtic immigrants to Atlantic Canada may have more in common with current settlers than we imagine! Q & A to follow. Thursday, February 20 7:00-9:00 pm Treble Makers Linda Knowles-MacPherson and friends entertain us with traditional and contemporary songs. Friday, February 21 7:00-9:00 pm Presentation of Mi’gmaq history and song by Gilbert Sewell: Elder, oral historian, folklorist, storyteller, guide, woodcarver, and Mi’gmaq language instructor from Pabineau First Nation. Saturday, February 22 2:00-4:00 pm Clarence LeBreton, Une histoire des pêcheries de la péninsule acadienne" (A History of the Fishermen from the Acadian Peninsula). His words, in French, are illustrated by beautiful black and white photographs. Journalist and historian, one of the founders of the Acadian Historical Village, he is the current president of the newspaper Acadie Nouvelle. He is the author of many works on the history of Acadians in New Brunswick. 7:00-8:00 pm "La dernière veillée irlandaise" (The Last Irish Wake) by Kevin Mann, written in 2019. Now translated in French, this play is set in the 1920s, featuring Irish and Acadian in a grand conversation. Q & A to follow. Premier historien du Village historique acadien, voix influente du secteur patrimonial, il est membre de la Commission des lieux et monuments historiques du Canada. Le lundi 17 : Journée de la famille de 14 h à 15 h et de 19 h à 20 h Deux représentations de Here Come the Settlers (Voici venir les colons), première d’une pièce de Kevin Mann, suivie d’une période d’échanges. Arrivés au Canada atlantique au 19e siècle, les immigrants celtes avaient probablement plus en commun avec les immigrants actuels que ce que l’on imagine! Pièce suivie d’une période d’échanges. Le mardi 18, de 13 h 30 à 15 h 30 : Dégustation thé et douceurs à la mode d’antan . Coiffez un chapeau ancien, jouez au mannequin et faites-vous prendre en photos. Les hommes y trouveront notamment un chapeau Stetson Harper Kent! (Activité au niveau inférieur du musée.) Le mercredi 19, de 12 h à 16 h : Portes ouvertes au musée! Les bénévoles se feront un plaisir de vous parler. Découvrez nos expositions, p. ex. celles qui illustrent le moulin (l’usine de pâtes et papiers), les mines, les entreprises J. W. Le jeudi 20, de 19 h à 21 h : Concert de chants traditionnels ou modernes avec le groupe The Treble Makers de Linda Knowles-MacPherson et ses amis. Le vendredi 21, de 19 h à 21 h : Présentation sur l’histoire des Mi’kmaq et interprétation de chants, par Gilbert Sewell, aîné, historien et enseignant de la Première Nation de Pabineau. Le samedi 22 à 14 h : Conférence de Clarence LeBreton : Une histoire des pêcheries de la Péninsule acadienne . Ses propos, en français, sont illustrés par de superbes photos noir et blanc. Journaliste et historien, un des fondateurs du Village historique acadien, il est l’actuel président du journal Acadie Nouvelle. Il a publié plusieurs documents sur l’histoire acadienne du N.-B. et de 19 h à 20 h : La dernière veillée irlandaise (The Last Irish Wake), de K. Mann, écrite en 2019, mettant en scène Irlandais et Acadiennes en grande conversation, v.1920. (Pièce suivie d’une période d’échanges).
