Happy St. Patrick's Day! We all felt the luck of the Irish today! We had a great time playing Minute To Win It Shamrock Games, enjoyed a delicious Irish stew with green dumplings for lunch. After lunch we watched a video of the very talented dancers from Tir na nOg Irish Dance Academy with tasty shamrock shakes, beer and punch too!

Good Afternoon families and friends, Food is often an expression of love and this holiday season is no different. To ensure we are following all food safety and infection control practices please be advised of the following. All food items need to be labelled with the resident name, what the food item is, from whom, and the date and time it was delivered. These labels will be kept in the main entrance as shown below. ... - If you are a Designated Care Giver bringing your loved one something to eat during your visit, you will still be required to complete and attach a label. - If you are dropping something off at the entrance and no one is there to receive it, make sure to clearly identify the time of delivery and leave in the entrance. As a friendly reminder, please also be advised of the following guidelines - All food should be brought in a disposable container as they will be discarded - We encourage you to only bring one serving of a meal at a time - We will not be able to share high risk food items with other residents - Whether perishable or not, all food will need a label prior to acceptance Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions please call Bay Side Home Monday-Friday 0800-1600. Jessica Patlan, P.Dt. Dietitian/Dietary Manager

DATE: September 30th, 2020 MEMO TO: Resident’s Families FROM: Paula Hatfield, Administrator RE: Indoor & Outdoor Visits ... We are pleased to announce that all initial indoor visits have occurred or are scheduled to occur. After careful consideration, indoor visits will now be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. To ensure all families are giving a fair chance we will only be booking one visit at a time. If you wish to visit a resident at Bay Side Home, please verify with the NOK that you are on the list of designated visitors. With the introduction of indoor visits, it’s time for some changes to our outdoor visits. For all outdoor visits, visitor(s) and resident(s) will be able to share a brief moment of physical contact (i.e. a quick hug, hand shake) at the beginning of the visit. Both resident(s) and visitor(s) will need to be wearing a medical grade mask and a reusable gown if you choose to exchange a hug. The gown will be provided by Bay Side Home and given to the visitor once arrival screening has been completed. In addition, visitors who wish to share physical contact with residents will be provided with a waiver. There are two (2) waivers; one for visitor’s with minors and one for adults. It is essential that each visitor read and understand the waiver prior to signing. If you have already signed the waiver for an indoor visit, you will not be asked to sign it a second time unless you are visiting with a minor. If you choose to decline signing the waiver, you will be prohibited from sharing physical contact with the resident. Going forward, outdoor visits will be able to be booked as far as a week/7 days in advance. Visits can be scheduled Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm (excluding holidays) by calling (902) 575-3063 and speaking with Karianne Malone, Visitation Coordinator. Thank you Paula Hatfield Administrator

Date: September 22, 2020 Memo to: Next of Kin From: Paula Hatfield, Administrator Re:Medical Appointments for Residents via Family or NOK transportation... We are very pleased to let you know that the Province of Nova Scotia is now allowing residents of Long-Term Care Facilities to access the community for medical appointments. The Department of Health and Wellness acknowledges the important role independent community access for medical appointments serves for residents within Long-Term Care Facilities and the positive contributions they make to resident’s quality of life, mental health, and overall well-being. In light of this, across the province, residents in Long-Term Care Facilities, including nursing homes, are now able to leave facility grounds to attend offsite, non-urgent medical appointments. As these residents are more susceptible to acquiring COVID-19 and suffering related complications due to increased frailty and high prevalence of underlying chronic health conditions, it is important to make sure access within the community for medical appointments is conducted in a way that keeps residents safe and reduces their risk of COVID-19 exposure Residents and their family members are required to abide by physical distancing requirements and to wear a mask (medical for the resident and non-medical for the support person/s). Medical masks will be provided to residents by Bay Side Home for accessing the community. Only residents who are not required to self-isolate and who are not demonstrating signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or other illnesses will be granted leave for medical appointments. We ask that you notify Bay Side Home in advance to advise of date, time, location etc. and to arrange a pick-up and drop-off time. Should the resident’s medical appointment be cancelled for any reason, please notify the facility in a timely manner. Family member/s NOK transporting their loved one are required to undergo the screening process similar to our current visitation screening before the appointment day, at pickup on the appointment day, and additionally upon return to Bay Side Home. The vehicle used for the appointment must be cleaned and disinfected prior to the resident’s appointment and the driver must also verify this upon arrival at Bay Side Home. Please contact the home and speak with Vicki Atwood RN, Director of Care regarding any upcoming appointments for your loved one. Thank you, Paula Hatfield Administrator

DATE: September 14th, 2020 MEMO TO: Resident Families FROM: Paula Hatfield, Administrator RE: Indoor Visits ... To keep up with high demands for visits with your loved ones, we are pleased to advise that Karianne Malone has been assigned as Visitation Coordinator. The Visitation Coordinator is responsible for scheduling all visits; indoor, outdoor and window visits, complete initial screening, monitor visits and to assist you with any questions or concerns that arise regarding the visiting process. Starting Monday, September 14th, Karianne will be contacting resident’s loved ones to schedule the first initial visits. Visitors must be 16 years or older to attend an indoor visit and no pets are permitted at this time. Each resident will be allotted up to eight (8) designated visitors but only one (1) visitor per visit. The designated visitors will be decided by the resident or SDM. Indoor visits will be starting off slowly with three (3) visits per day in intervals of 30 minutes maximum for each visit. When arriving for your visit, visitors are asked to park in the visitor parking lot, stay in their vehicles until the Visitation Coordinator calls your cell phone to conduct the arrival screening. Please ensure you are wearing a medical grade mask on arrival. All visitors will be provided with a waiver once the arrival screening has been completed. It is essential that each visitor read and understand the waiver before signing and going forward with the visit. Once authorized to enter the building, the Visitation Coordinator will escort the visitor to the main common room where the visit will take place. The visitor will be asked to wash/sanitize hands, put on reusable gown provided and follow social distancing guidelines. The Visitation Coordinator will then go to the neighbourhood of the visiting resident, ensure they are wearing their mask, reusable gown and escort them to the common room where they can share a brief hug and visit with their loved one. Following the hug, both resident and visitor must sanitize their hands before carrying on with their visit. Once the 30 minutes are up, the visitor and resident will say their goodbyes and the visitor must exit the facility immediately, placing their gown in the laundry hamper at the door. Reminder - You cannot visit the facility: If you are feeling unwell and are showing symptoms of Covid-19. If you or anyone in your household has traveled outside of the Atlantic Provinces. If you or anyone in your household are awaiting test results from a Covid-19 test. Please be advised that we are working hard to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. This is a new concept for us, residents and their loved ones; having patience as we work through this is greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions, concerns or issues with your visit, please contact Karianne at (902) 575-3063 or by email [email protected] between 8am-4pm Monday to Friday.

The Introduction of Indoor Visits at Bay Side Home. We are excited to announce that Bay Side Home has been working towards developing a strategy to allow for indoor visitation in the very near future. We are happy to be able to offer indoor visitation for our residents and loved ones so that they can continue to enjoy quality time together in a safe and comfortable environment. However, while the weather still permits, we want to stress the benefits of using our outdoor vis...itation area and why we view it as the most pleasant and safe way to see your loved one. Outdoor visitation offers access to more potential visitors over the course of a week (up to two at one time); the ability to enjoy a group visit which can include children; improved communication with visitors with the ability for residents to visit without a mask and a more aesthetically pleasing environment. While we will be opening for indoor visitation in the very near future it will be much different than indoor visitation prior to the COVID 19 pandemic: no access to residents’ rooms, common areas, dining rooms etc; one visitor per visit; masks worn at all times by visitor and resident; all visits in our common room area. So, while it may sound like a preferable option to outdoor visitation (and for some residents it may be), in most circumstances, outdoor visitation remains the safest and most beneficial way to see your loved one. Stay tuned for details on indoor visitation and we hope you continue to enjoy our outdoor visitation space and the quality time with your loved ones that it provides. Thank you for your support and patience as we work through this together. Paula Hatfield Administrator
