Bye Bye Clutter Calgary 10.11.2020

Who knew there was a National Thrift Shop day? Thankfully, our local thrift shops are back in action again. Please think of them when decluttering. Our excess stuff can make a big difference to someone's life :)

I’ve just come across a new podcast that some of you may like. It’s the Cozy Minimalist. Each episode is very short, and she doesn’t get into much detail, but I keep thinking YES! Here’s one of the things I liked, and it would work for any room. Strip it down to only what you need just the essentials. Maybe, if you can, live with this for a few days. Then, add in layers of coziness until it feels good and stop right there! Don’t put back anything you don’t like or don’t use. I bet you will have a bunch of things to spare!

Don’t you just love the feeling of going to a hotel? That calm atmosphere of having your life stripped down to the basics is so freeing! You CAN go a long way to duplicating this feeling at home. It’s not easy and it does take time, but the rewards are SO worth it. If you need a little motivation, and have some time, here’s some things that I have benefited from: Netflix: "Minimalism, A Documentary". The Minimalists, Josh and Ryan also have a podcast and the saying the...y end each episode with is, Love people and use things, because the opposite never works. Book: Marie Kondo, "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" The book is WAY better than her Netflix series which really glosses over the actual work involved Book: Peter Walsh, It’s All Too Much - An easy plan for living a richer life with less stuff Peter had an organizing show on TLC called Clean Sweep. He has written other books too, Let it Go, and Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight Right now the Calgary Public Libraries are closed, but you can still download ebooks and audio books. And if you don’t have a library card/account you can sign up online!!

Hi everyone! Here's something new. Have you seen the IKEA ads about their old items getting a second life - the girl who takes home an old IKEA desk lamp she finds on the street, and the "Stuff Monster"? Well they've taken this one step beyond by starting up a buy back program. It's still kind of clunky as in you have to take the item back to the store but I think it shows they're trying to be good corporate citizens. This photo shows the steps. I'd still rather sell things on kijiji but I'm sure there are instances where this could work, plus who wouldn't want IKEA store credit??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L_Ftf0ywl4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecTUnfHyj8k
