#CampbellRiver mayor, Andy Adams knows all too well the devastation cancer can have, facing both prostate and lung cancer in recent years. - In the months since Andy’s treatment journey that saw surgeries and chemotherapy, both Andy’s cancers have been cleared, yet he remains a vocal proponent for men to watch for the warning signs. - More men need to take their health seriously and not be afraid to visit a doctor when something doesn’t feel normal, says Andy. It’s imp...ortant we continue to raise awareness that getting a test is a precautionary, painless and simple thing to do. Take it seriously and don’t put it off. - On November 18, Andy will join other cancer patients and survivors to share his story on-air during A Day to Break Down Cancer radio event. This special broadcast will rally the community together to break down cancer on Vancouver Island and support BC Cancer patients affected by the disease. - Learn more: https://bit.ly/2JL1kaE #Movember #MensCancerAwareness #ProstateCancer City of Campbell River - City Hall

Before losing her mom to ovarian cancer, Krista Saunders learned of her own breast cancer after a routine mammogram. In the months to follow, amidst her grief surrounding her mom’s passing, Krista underwent radiation at BC Cancer, even wearing her mom’s shoes as a way to know she was there in spirit. - Now, Krista and her family have moved to Nova Scotia to be close to family, but she remains thankful for the successful care and treatment received that has resulted in no evidence of disease (NED). - On November 27, our virtual Discovery 2020 event will raise funds for the breast cancer B-PRECISE program that will bring massive shifts in treatment and care strategies for more patients like Krista. Hoping to get to the root of the issue, Russ visited his family doctor, where blood tests would later help identify a tumour on his kidney. - On November 18, Russ will share his story during A Day to Break Down Cancer #PattisonRadio campaign that will raise funds for cancer research on #VancouverIsland. In 2017, after arriving home from Europe to celebrate the completion of her engineering degree and varsity rugby career at University of British Columbia, the future was looking bright for then 23-year-old Stephanie MacKinnon. Just months later, things took a drastic turn when Stephanie started to experience headaches and lost vision in her left eye. - Rushed to the hospital, Stephanie was later diagnosed with primary central nervous system lymphoma. In the coming months, she... would navigate the world of chemotherapy and stem cell treatments at one point having an appointment every day for 75 days. - BC Cancer was my second family during my treatment. The nurses, doctors and therapists got me through my darkest days. - Today, thanks to advancements in treatment options, Stephanie’s scans are clear and doctors have deemed her as NED (no evidence of disease). She has taken her life back, and is more excited for the future than ever before. Congrats, Stephanie! See more
