AMS 2020 Session Highlight: Writing - 15 Ways to Make Your Writing Life Better We’ll tackle solutions for 15 of the toughest hardships in agricultural writing, ...including writing tight, writing the same old thing new, reading well, forming relationships that lead to sources, and finding the hook. Dealing with burnout? Got boring quotes? Feel like nobody understands you? This is the session for you. We’ll also cover writing in the age of COVID, compelling readers to read when ain’t nobody got time for that, plus look for a bonus #16: writing opinions that make a difference, from a four-time winner of AAEA’s top writing award for editorial opinion. Holly Spangler, Editor of Prairie Farmer, and Executive Editor for Farm Progress. For more information, visit https://cvent.me/Xkv5Ba

As part of the virtual MagsWest conference over the past two weeks, I had the opportunity to sit in on a particularly engaging presentation on freelance writing with Jennifer Van Evra. She is an award-winning Vancouver writer, broadcaster and UBC writing instructor and her work has appeared in publications including The Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver magazine and Metropolis. She has also been a CBC reporter and producer for nearly two decades working on program...s including The Early Edition, On the Coast and q. Jennifer has two online freelance writing courses starting next week (September 29) through the UBC Extended Learning program. Whether you're new to freelancing or could use a refresher (cudn't we all?), they are definitely worth taking a look. (There could be financial assistance for CLBC contributors!) https://extendedlearning.ubc.ca//our-ins/jennifer-van-evra
